In this episode, Clint Hill, now in his 80s, recounts the high and low points of his life that, to many, was defined by his leaping onto the back of the Presidents car in Dallas after John F Kennedy was shot. Though Warren Weeks asks a few questions about that day, the interview is largely about the experiences of the man who served 6 Presidents, what he thought about them, the impact on his own two boys, the constant scanning of the crowds vs the family familiarities. One of the best stories is the fate of the nurse of President Eisenhower’s mother-in-law. It also delves into the impact of the day in Dallas on Hill, his depression in the late 70’s and the role of writer Lisa McCubbin in helping him overcome the PTSD of the event some 35 years later. It also does service to Mike Wallace’s interview on 60 Minutes (he followed up with Hill after the interview and it clearly affected Wallace). Kudos to Warren for helping to reveal the fuller story of this man, and to provide a life context of this man.
