Throughline

I came back to edit my original review. This show has been the catalyst for many deep dives into issues that seemed so complex to me at first. Once I found the “throughline” I was able to get a better sense of the interests that shape many of the pressing social and political debates we’re having currently. Everyone I’ve recommended the show to has become a fan and I always tell them go back to listen to old episodes to get the full picture. Your work is invaluable and we your listeners thank you for the thorough work you do. Bravo team! ****This has become one of my favorites alongside Revisionist History, Against the Rules etc; the historical contexts of the discussions gives a perspective that has shifted some of my strongly held beliefs. It’s a great show! But, replaying older episodes from the SAME series, or playing episodes from ANOTHER podcast, not as bonus content, but as a regular weekly release is confusing. I get that the older episodes may have become more relevant based on recent happenings but we can always go back and listen to them whenever we want. And if it’s a case of not having any content scheduled for the week? Just don’t release anything for the sake of keeping up with a schedule! If there’s nothing new to talk about, I don’t see the point in replaying an entire episode I had listened to weeks before! I rarely leave reviews because I like to enjoy content as it’s creators intend it to be; my opinion doesn’t always matter. But in this instance, I just can’t wrap my head around this confusing tactic, especially when it’s happening more than once on the same podcast.

Favorite show, hands down. Gripping storytelling, ridiculously high-quality content; the kind of episodes you have to re-listen to because they’re so packed with insight. Also…crush on both hosts. I cannot believe what an amazing job they do at creating well crafted, deeply researched, historical but also timely podcasts. They always leave me feeling more informed about how we got to where we are now.

I never know how to describe what ‘kind’ of show Throughline is. I never know what to expect when an episode starts. I am always grateful for the amazing blend of science, history, philosophy turned into audio. I never miss an episode.
