A Hilarious Race to the Bottom
I had written out a whole review and then misclicked and the entire thing disappeared. I have to assume this is part of an elaborate conspiracy on the part of the “shadow government” to prevent this truth-telling, very important non-fiction podcast from getting attention.
All jokes aside, this show is a gem. TFEKaF takes a cast of characters who sometimes feel eerily like somebody I would’ve met in first-year university and now find myself weakly defending to my friends (“Randy’s a good guy, I promise- he’s just got some, uh, some kinda funny ideas.”) and makes you simultaneously love them (while peeking through your fingers, because they’re all human disasters) and fills you with gratitude that, well, no matter what your problems are, at least being one of these people isn’t one of them.
Episode by episode, the story builds its surreal narrative of closely-held (and insupportable) beliefs coming into conflict with actual reality, aided by wry, sidelong narration by the inestimable Jack Carmichael.
Oh, and there’s a feud between flat earther content creators.
Yes, it’s exactly as funny as it sounds.
Clever Conspiracy Comedy!
It’s not often that I laugh out loud at a fiction podcast, but this one got me a bunch of times. There are lots of clever little moments packed in that will make you laugh in hindsight, super subtle but all the better for it. And of course, the quality of sound design and acting are top notch!
