    Welcome to Dragons of Spring Dawning!  We finally learn something about Berem. It isn't pretty. Neither is the 'break-up' between Tanis and Kit! Which Tanis initiates in the middle of the night while Kit is away. His reunion with the rest of the Companions is full of tension. The tension is further heightened when Tanis demands they all leave as soon as possible the next morning. After arguing with the Captain of the Maquesta, Tanis and Company sail out of Flotsam. Kit finds Tanis' break-up note as soon as she returns and handles that about how you'd expect her to.     Tanis and Company aboard the Perechon are pursued by dragons. It turns out Kitiara isn't happy about how Tanis left. Tanis is still trying to convince the rest of the Companions that he didn't betray them. They seem skeptical now and that feeling will only grow. The ship, in vain, attempts to escape but only ends up being drawn into the Maelstrom at the heart of the Blood Sea. Tanis hopes, in vain, that Kit will not recognize Berem. Raistlin does recognize Kit. Tanis comes clean. It is not pretty. Despite the madness of the storm Kitiara continues to pursue them, Tanis asks for forgiveness. Many secrets are revealed. Raistlin abandons the rest of the party. Tanis and the remaining Companions are seemingly lost in the great whirlpool at the heart of the Blood Sea.     We, and Raistlin, meet Astinus of Palanthas, the immortal chronicler of the world of Krynn and keeper of Palanthas's library. Raistlin's escape to Palanthas worked though it has left him very weak and close to death. He hopes to find a means to save his life within the library. Raistlin struggles to find what he seeks, near death he is visited by Astinus. Their conversation inadvertently reveals to the young wizard that he is not alone, and leaves Astinus troubled. Laurana, Tas, and Flint are also in Palanthas, Tas even saw Raistlin arrive but does not realize it.     Laurana, without her consent, is made the Commander of the Knights of Solamnia. Despite her misgivings she accepts the assignment. As part of accepting her new responsibilities, and despite what her heart may want, she also lets go of her love for Tanis. She does not have the time and energy to pursue it and she believes he is lost to the Darkness.  Tas and Flint inspect the fortifications, worry about Laurana, and reveal their thoughts about Kitiara now that they know she is a Dragon Highlord.  The good dragons finally arrive! Gilthanas & Silvara come with them. We learn from them why the metallic dragons have not made themselves before now: the twisted machinations of Takhisis! But through the sacrifice of Gilthanas and Silvara they've finally come out of hiding to help. Gilthanas also knows about Tanis' indiscretions now and shares it with Laurana.     Dragons of Spring Dawning, Book 1, Chapter 9 & Book 2, Chapter 1

    We learn how dragonriding and dragonlances work. Laurana, or the Golden General as she is being called, leads the forces of good to victories over the draconian armies. The first pitched air battle between dragons is fought. Tas and Flint get to ride a dragon into battle! It almost ends in disaster for everyone involved. Almost. But, Tas does capture an enemy dragon rider while Flint swears off dragon riding forever.  While the liberated city of Kalamn celebrates Laurana, the Knights of Solamnia and their victories Tas manages to find the lone Draconian in the city. The creature tasks the kender with delivering a message to Laurana. The message is from Kit, and states that Tanis is dying and wishes to see Laurana. Kit has agreed to a prisoner swap. Laurana agrees to this plan for no coherent reason. Everyone else thinks this is a TERRIBLE idea!     Dragons of Spring Dawning, Book 2, Chapters 2 & 3 & the Knight of the Black Rose

    We are introduced to the supreme leader of Takhisis' forces of darkness, Lord Ariakas, who is on his way to correct the mistakes of his general, Kitiara. Mainly by trying to kill her. He is prevented in his attempt by, arguably, the most popular character to come out of Dragonlance, no not Raistlin! It's Lord Soth the fallen Solamnic Knight! We learn his tragic story. Of how he could have prevented the Cataclysm but was instead consumed by baser emotions and condemned forever to a cruel undeath. Then, we watch as Laurana stumbles through the prisoner exchange of Bakaris for Tanis, only to be captured, assaulted, and finally taken to Kitiara by Lord Soth. Flint and Tas are left to convey the loss of the Golden General to the Knights, the army, and the good people of Ansalon.     Dragons of Spring Dawning, Book 2, Chapters 4 & 5

    We finally learn what has become of Tanis and the rest of the Companions who were aboard the Perechon when it was attacked by dragons and sunk in the Blood Sea. Tanis, Riverwind, Goldmoon and Berem find themselves locked in some ancient ruins with no access to the outside world. We learn more about Berem: he can talk; he has lived for 300 odd years; and he has been pursued by Takhisis his whole long life. They encounter a red robed man, who informs them they were saved by Sea Elves.  flees when threatened by Tanis. They pursue him through the ruins only to discover that they are in the ruins of Istar beneath the Blood Sea?!  Caramon and Tika are also stuck in these ruins beneath the waves. Caramon, despite being abandoned by his brother, clings to the relationship with his twin and tortures himself in his dreams. Tika pleads for his attention and love. They also meet the red robed man, we learn his name is Zebulah, he informs them that they were saved by Sea Elves. That they best make themselves comfortable as he knows of no way to leave. Zebulah leaves the awkward couple to themselves.     Tanis and friends finally catch up to that red-robed fellow they've been chasing, it is Zebulah who we met last time. They also meet the wizard's wife, the sea elf Apoletta, and learn a great deal about the world they were unaware of! Don't ask us how a sea elf who lives at the bottom of the Blood Sea knows about dragon lances, good dragons, or the secret landlocked city of Neraka, where Takhisis' hidden temple is located! But she does! And she shares that information with the party. We also learn a bit about the destruction of Istar and the nature of faith. Caramon and Tika are reunited with the rest of Tanis' party, and they forgive the half-elf for failing them in Flotsam. Finally, the two Istar residents agree to help the Companions escape the sunken city.
