While GLP-1s like semaglutide, tirzepatide, and retatrutide have been absolute game-changers for weight loss, metabolic health, and even addictive behaviors, there’s a smaller—but very real—subset of people who experience something unexpected: a reduced ability to feel pleasure. Personally, I’ve never experienced this side effect. In fact, GLP-1s have done the opposite for me by giving me more mental clarity and freedom from compulsive behaviors. But enough people have reported feeling emotionally flat, unmotivated, or disconnected from things they used to enjoy that it deserves a serious, evidence-based conversation. In this episode, I break down what anhedonia actually is, how it differs from depression, and why it can happen with GLP-1s from a neurochemical standpoint—specifically dopamine signaling and reward circuitry in the brain. We’ll look at the clinical data, real-world reports, differences between GLP-1 compounds, and why dose, speed of titration, weight loss, hormones, and lifestyle factors all matter. Most importantly, I share practical strategies for mitigating these effects so you can still harness the benefits of GLP-1s without sacrificing joy, motivation, or quality of life.

Sometimes you’ll see it spelled Thymagen, but I’ve always preferred “Thymogen” because it just rolls off the tongue. Either way, we’re talking about a bioregulator peptide that works specifically on the immune system, and it’s one that’s been floating around research circles for a while… but I haven’t gone deep on it until now. Most of you have heard me talk about Thymalin — and I love Thymalin. I’ve used it a lot, and in certain use cases I even like it more than Thymosin Alpha-1. But here’s the key: Thymalin is broad-spectrum. It’s like a full thymus “reset.” Thymogen is more targeted — especially for the “post-viral” use case, that lingering sickness, the recovery phase, or even as a proactive tool when colds and flus are making their rounds. And honestly, that’s exactly why this episode matters right now, because I’ve been dealing with a little head cold myself after travel and lack of sleep. In this episode, I break down what Thymogen is (a synthetic dipeptide: L-glutamyl-L-tryptophan), why it’s interesting from a longevity perspective, and what we know about its safety history in Russia. Then we get into the mechanisms: T-cell maturation, immune surveillance, neutrophil function, and even some of the signaling pathways it appears to influence like ERK, mTOR-related proteins, STAT1, and chromatin remodeling. I also explain why I see Thymogen as more of an immune modulator than a blunt “stimulator,” which matters a lot if you’re dealing with inflammation or an overactive immune system. We’ll talk practical benefits — fewer infections, better recovery, inflammation control, and why the animal data is intriguing when you look at lifespan and tumor incidence. Then I’ll give you my straightforward protocol: 1–2 mg per day for 30–60 days, usually once or twice per year as a tune-up… and also how I’d deploy it if you’re actively sick or dealing with something that just won’t clear. Finally, I’ll compare Thymogen vs Thymalin, and I’ll explain how you can use them together: Thymalin as the foundation, Thymogen as the fine-tuning. Right out of the gate, I want to be clear about something—there is no single “right” answer here. There are different bodies, different lifestyles, different physiologies, and different goals. What I do have is experience, data, and a strong personal preference that I explain openly throughout this episode. I walk through the actual pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics behind IM versus SubQ testosterone—how absorption differs, how peak-to-trough curves behave, how injection frequency changes everything, and why the conversation shifts entirely once you move into every-other-day or daily microdosing instead of once-weekly injections. We also get into topics most people gloss over or oversimplify: estradiol conversion, hematocrit changes, mood and cognitive stability, libido and sexual function, injection site reactions, mast cell activation, carrier oils, body fat considerations, and why some people feel incredible on one method and awful on the other. Importantly, this episode is not just for men. I spend time addressing testosterone therapy for women, dosing considerations, concentration issues, and why delivery method matters just as much—if not more—when female physiology is involved. Most people are familiar with mitochondrial peptides like SS-31 or MOTS-c. Humanin is different. It’s an endogenous mitochondrial-derived peptide, meaning your body actually makes it naturally, and it plays a critical role in protecting cells, especially under conditions of stress and aging. What really caught my attention with Humanin is that it appears to sit at the intersection of mitochondrial health, neuroprotection, and longevity signaling. In this episode, I walk through what Humanin is, how it was discovered, and why researchers originally became interested in it, particularly in the context of Alzheimer’s disease and neurodegeneration. We’ll talk about how Humanin functions as a cellular “distress signal” from the mitochondria, how it blocks apoptosis, protects mitochondrial membranes, and helps cells survive oxidative and metabolic stress.
