Talking Dateline: Noises in the Night

Josh Mankiewicz and Andrea Canning discuss Andrea’s episode, “Noises in the Night.” In November 2016, 16-year-old cheerleader Emma Walker was found dead in her Knoxville, Tennessee home. An investigation revealed she was killed by a bullet shot from outside her house that pierced the wall of her bedroom. Andrea and Josh talk about the people who helped investigators bring the killer to justice – his own friends – and reflect on what parents can do to protect their teens from toxic relationships. Blayne Alexander sits down with Josh Mankiewicz and Dateline producer Michelle Madigan to discuss their episode, “Open Water.” When Micki Kanesaki’s ex-husband Lonnie Kocontes invited her on a European cruise in 2006, she thought it would be a chance to rekindle their relationship. But a few days into the trip, Lonnie awoke to find Micki missing from their stateroom. After a boat captain found her body floating in the Mediterranean, both Italian and American authorities zeroed in on Lonnie as a possible suspect in her death. Two of his friends stepped in to prove his innocence – but soon came to an entirely different conclusion. Josh and Michelle share what it was like working on this episode during the pandemic in 2020. Running Man

Tyler Goodrich left his home in Lincoln, Nebraska on November 3, 2023. On the night of his disappearance, Tyler and his husband, Marshall Vogel, were arguing, and Marshall called 911. Home security video shows a figure running from their house minutes after the call. Dateline’s Josh Mankiewicz speaks with Marshall, as well as several of Tyler’s family members and close friends. UPDATE: On March 8, 2025, remains later identified as Tyler were found about 967 yards from his house in a wooded area previously searched by volunteers. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office believes Tyler’s body had been there more than a year. They confirmed Tyler died by suicide. 25-year-old Arelie Garcia was last seen leaving her Salinas, California apartment on September 22, 2022. Later that day, Arelie’s bright red Honda Accord was found abandoned in Big Sur on Highway 1. Dateline’s Josh Mankiewicz speaks with her sisters Veronica Garcia and Elizet Mendoza, and Detective Arras Wilson of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Arelie is 5’5” and about 150 lbs. She has brown hair and brown eyes. When she was last seen, she was wearing a black hoodie, black leggings, and sneakers. Missing in Music City

Marcus Rutledge disappeared on June 8, 1998, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 23 years old and had been attending Tennessee State University. Nearly a month later, Marcus’s car, a red Plymouth Neon, was found abandoned about 20 miles from his apartment in Nashville. Dateline’s Josh Mankiewicz talks to his father, David Rutledge, his sister, Felicia Rutledge, his ex-girlfriend Valencia Bryant, and Metro Nashville Police Department Detective Matthew Filter. UPDATE: In January 2025, remains found in 2010 were positively identified as belonging to Marcus.
