    On this episode Karen has a conversation with Margaret Ann Fitzpatrick Hanly, a distinguished Toronto-based psychoanalyst, teacher, and writer whose work has helped shape contemporary psychoanalytic thinking in Canada and beyond. Margaret Ann, a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society, has played a central role in psychoanalytic education and clinical training for decades. Known for her intellectual clarity and clinical depth, she has written and lectured widely on topics such as the nature of psychoanalytic knowledge, the process of interpretation, and the complexities of masochism. Her most recent book is Jane Austen: Sibling Rivalry, Unconscious Fantasy and Change. Margaret Ann has also been an important institutional figure in Canadian psychoanalysis, helping sustain dialogue between psychoanalysis, philosophy, and the wider intellectual culture. Through her teaching and mentorship, she has influenced generations of analysts and psychotherapists.     This episode: a conversation with Psychoanalyst Dr. Sun Ju Chung, President of the Korean Psychoanalytic Center, which became a component society of the International Psychoanalytical Society this year at the 54th IPA Congress in Lisbon. The conversation ranges from hyper-connectivity to Korean pop culture, beauty standards, and food, to the very encouraging state of psychoanalysis in South Korea today.
 Sun Ju says, "It took 45 years since our founder established the first study group in Seoul. It was a long journey for us. We were all very touched."     Episode 4: Dr. Joshua Levy

    Joshua Levy, Ph.D., C.Psych., has the distinction of being the oldest training and supervising analyst at the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis. Dr. Levy has published widely on dreams. He is an advocate for learning to appreciate multiple analytic perspectives. He leads day-long seminars on analytic listening and is currently guiding a Canada-wide study group on psychoanalytic supervision. He is very involved in the Toronto psychoanalytic scene and it is not surprise that in 2019 he was the recipient of the International Forum for Psychoanalytic Education's Hans Loewald Prize for his work on Analytic Stalemate and Psychoanalytic Supervision. This award recognizes extraordinary contributions to psychoanalytic education. In this episode, we discuss among other things his upcoming Freud Café Presentation on Friday, May 31st, 2024 in Toronto during the 45th Annual Canadian Psychoanalytic Congress. His presentation is entitled "Are You Empathic" and in it, he will ask, What is empathy? What isn't it? What did Freud say and not say about it? Can empathy be taught?

    Dr. Oren Gozlan is the Programming Chair of the Scientific Committee for the 45th Congress of the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society, "The Future is History" (May 30-June 2, 2024, King Edward Hotel, Toronto). Oren is a clinical psychologist and a psychoanalyst in private practice. His book Transsexuality and the Art of Transitioning: A Lacanian Approach won the American Academy & Board of Psychoanalysis' annual book prize for books published in 2015. He is also the winner of the Symonds Prize (2016). His edited collection titled Critical Debates in the Transsexual Studies Field: In Transition was a runner up for the 2019 Gradiva Award. He is also the winner of the 2023 Miguel Prados prize (CPS). He is past Chair of the Scientific Committee at the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society and on faculty at the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis.
