Power Up Memphis aims to take our customers on an inside tour of MLGW to share vital information on our programs and operations. The show partners representatives from local organizations and businesses to provide MLGW customers with energy-saving tips, utility assistance, and by doing so we can all better understand how we function as your utility provider.

    Power Up Memphis (March 2022)

    In this episode of Power Up Memphis… J.T. Young, President/CEO of Memphis Light, Gas and Water, joins our Host Gale Jones Carson, V.P. of External and Community Affairs, to discuss the newly established Outage Improvement Advisory Team (OIAT). Following the city’s recent ice storm and the number of customers affected, the OIAT was formed. Over the next several months, the OIAT will examine power outages and ways to improve the MLGW power restoration process. The team consists of community stakeholders from MLGW, the City of Memphis, Shelby County government, neighborhood associations, non-profits, and surrounding municipalities representing MLGW’s 439,000 customers. MLGW customer are also invited to engage in the process through questions/feedback at memphistn.gov/mlgw/ regarding tree trimming, underground lines, response time, overall infrastructure, suggestions for improvement, and more. The site also has a full list of the OIAT members. Also joining this segment of Power Up Memphis is Reynold Douglas, General Service Director for the City of Germantown. As a representative for the City of Germantown, Douglas will be joining the 50 member OIAT panel as a stakeholder and a voice for the residents of his community. Are the citizens of Germantown pleased with MLGW? Are improvements needed with MLGW’s restoration process? Tune in as Douglas shares his thoughts and concerns for what he hopes the OIAT could mean for future crisis.     Power Up Memphis ( February 2022)

    In this episode of Power Up Memphis… Julie C. Meiman, who is the Community Engagement & Outreach Specialist with the Division of Community Services, Director’s Office for Shelby County Government, joins our Host Gale Jones Carson to discuss a new program available to aid those in the community who have been hard hit by the Covid-19 Pandemic. Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on thousands of residents throughout Shelby County and Mieman will share some very important information to viewers in the surrounding Shelby County municipalities regarding a new outreach program offered by the Shelby County Division of Community Services for mortgage and utility assistance. The funds are available to residents who reside in the outer municipalities (Bartlett, Millington, Arlington, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland) of the county and unincorporated Memphis. She will provide details on the new program and how to apply for funding along with qualifications necessary to receive the assistance. Viewers will also learn how they can access an application to apply. The funding is good through 2024 and qualified residents are encouraged to take advantage of this federally funded program while funds are still available. Also joining our host to discuss available utility assistance programs and resources offered by MLGW is Barbara Martin, Supervisor of MLGW Credit Operations. Martin will discuss the various social service agencies that MLGW partners with throughout the community to ensure our customers have knowledge of all the resources available and how to receive aid. She will also discuss some of the challenges MLGW customers face as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic. In addition, Martin will discuss how MLGW handles customers who rely on oxygen, resources for the homeless, MLGW’s Plus-1 and Gift of Comfort Programs, MLGW’s Winter Moratorium, partnering with CSA, and the MLGW Dashboard which provides a snapshot of social agencies throughout Shelby County where customers can utilize these services to meet their utility needs, rental assistance needs, and more.
