    Embers of War 16 – Fleeting Peace

    "I hope you found some peace, Kiyo. Maybe one day I'll find mine." Shinobu sealed Formless Passage into it's sheath, hoping to never draw it again. The party has delivered the enigmatic Shinobu to Tadakichi, to negotiate the release of Formless Passage. The moment of truth has arrived for the party. Or will the past haunt them? Editor and GM Kyrie here. At long last, The Ghosts of Amegawa has concluded. The story is not over yet, but I would like to personally thank everyone for their patience, the players for their time, and my guests their talents in this project I care about so much.     "What if I am not strong enough?" Shinobu pleaded, holding Formless Passage in her hands. Kiyo placed her hand on top of Shinobu's. "You'll find that strength." Shinobu wished for the privilege of pondering as the remaining soldiers were felled. The gang escorts Shinobu up the Aoyama mountain range, hoping for safe passage to Dou. Awaiting in the shadows, however, was the prospect of the past jeopardizing the future.     "I don't get you, Kiyo." Shinobu asked this with a weariness she would become all too accustomed to in her later years. "A sword is a tool to rend flesh and cut bone." Kiyo gave a pained smile. "I know. But if a sword must do those things, it should be in your hands. A spade can dig a grave, but it can also make a garden." We do some long over-due housekeeping and leveling, while the trio prepare for their journey to Dou. Rain does some training, while Nadeshiko and Phoenix have a chat. What can be learned from the Lady of Amegawa, and can the gang hold it together for their trip?     Hachitsu Kiyo slid the sword across the table. "I call it Formless Passage. And I gift it to you, Shinobu." The sword saint ruffles her hair. "Why me?" Kiyo could only chuckle in reply. "Because you're the only one I can trust with it." The gang finds themselves meeting face to face with the enigmatic leader of Amegawa, who came to them to apologize. But she is still guarded- what secrets does Formless Passage contain? And why is Shinobu insistent on keeping it at her side?     "I am sorry, Shinobu. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." Those hollow words echoed in her mind. As the blood of Midorishima's enemies dripped off the edge of her blade, she could only wonder how few were left. The gang's troubles never seem to be so simple. While an external threat is mitigated, the bonds are beginning to stretch and strain under the weight of their mission. Can the trio make it through together, or will it fall apart like so many others? Editors Note: This episode is shorter then the others, and for good reason!     She placed her sword back in it's sheath. Suddenly, all the pain and anguish rushed to her, as she collapsed in the falling ash. Her tears returned. What had she done? The gang finds themselves in a jam, as the enigmatic Shinobu refuses their audience. Meanwhile, they catch wind of a local lord who is making a name for himself, but for unscrupulous reasons. Can they find a way to meet with Shinobu? And what exactly is Lord Zuuto's deal? And is it all going to be in vain?
