We try to explain the complex issues happening in the news with interesting guests who are in the middle of the story. The podcast is made in Warsaw, Poland and covers the mostly the EU part former Soviet states but on occasion also covers major events happening further outs East.

Interview with photojournalist Attila Husejnow

Attila Husejnow is a Hungarian photojournalist working in Poland who has covered the stories of migrants as far as the Asia and recently in Hungary, Croatia, Serbia and Poland. He describes what it's like working in these situations, how he transitioned from doing commercial work to journalism and the similarities and differences between the 2015 migrant crisis at the Hungarian and Serbian borders and the one currently happening soon the Polish-Belarusian border. Is Poland using migrants to erode EU democracy?

In retaliation for EU sanctions Europe's "last dictator" Viktor Lukashenko has started what some call a hybrid war at the borders of the Balkan states and Poland. Lituania, Latvia and Poland have enacted a state of emergency and are allowing border guards to enforce push-backs of migrants back over the border to Belarus in defiance of international law. In Poland the area around the border even includes a total media black out and full prohibition to report on activities of government forces. With thousands of migrants being pushed over the border into the EU by Belarusian forces human rights lawyers, NGO's, the European Court of Human Rights and the UNHCR are demanding access to border regions to provide migrants with humanitarian help. Several migrants have been found dead near the border, an area that is larger made up of dense woodlands. With the winter coming things are set to get worse.
