What we want to see from the Phillies in September

The Phillies have won six in a row and 13 of 15 following Tuesday’s victory in August. They are baseball’s hottest team, moving ahead of the Cubs for the No. 1 NL Wild Card and three behind the Braves in the NL East. It’s great, but it’s what happens in October that matters most. What do we want to see from these Phillies in the final month of the season… besides wins, of course? Trea Turner getting on track? Alex McFarlane earning more of Don Mattingly’s trust? Zack Wheeler’s improvement? Andrew Painter building on what have been encouraging performances since he rejoined the team in late July? Plus, could Bryce Harper finish in the top three for NL MVP? Could Jesús Luzardo finish in the top three for NL Cy Young? This episode of The Phillies Show is powered by Monster Energy. Zack Wheeler rebounds, Phillies hot in August

The Phillies swept the Angels in Anaheim on Sunday, following a huge grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning on Friday and another comeback victory on Saturday. They got a promising start from Zack Wheeler on Sunday. Is he back? “I’m still not out of it,” Wheeler said. But he certainly pitched better than he had lately. He helped the Phillies improve to 20-7 in August, which is the best record in baseball. They are third in baseball in runs this month. They are first in batting average. They are third in OPS. They are third in ERA. Maybe they’re peaking at the right time with the postseason a month away. We also talk about Andrew Painter’s wild start on Friday and more.  It’s “Best Week” by Manco & Manco Pizza! Manco’s is the Best of the Best, and every week throughout the season we pick our best Phillies players, performances and moments of the week.
