The Correctional Service of Canada has confirmed the attack, but has not disclosed further information regarding the incident or Pickton's current state.

    Reports from Sûreté du Québec indicate that Pickton is currently in a medically induced coma, with CBS News stating that he is in a precarious condition. According to an anonymous source cited by The Province, Pickton was allegedly attacked by another inmate who used a broken broom-like handle to spear him in the head.

    Pickton was accused of killing 26 women, and in a 2007 trial, he was convicted of murdering six women, CBS News reports.
