    C1E2 - Saving an Innocent Soul

    Uneasy, our heroes exit the hunter’s lodge and face a dilemma. Four more doors line the wall across the room and a large staircase leading to the upper floor on their right. After a short debate, each one picked a door and tried to eavesdrop and look through the keyhole. Nyrus needed very specific instructions on how to do this without breaking a door, which he eventually did a little later, despite the team's efforts to be stealthy. Franz on the far left, Witch Chop on the one next to him, Nyrus next, and Nehemia with Raegar on the far right. They heard something behind the door that Nyrus and Franz were trying to eavesdrop on. Light footsteps, moving too fast to be human. Nyrus broke through the door, while Franz cautiously opened his, to reveal a Dining room with a long table in the middle. Looking around, they couldn’t see anyone, until they shed light under the table and discovered a scared dog. Franz caught the dog and tried to calm it… but scared it more at first. Nothing a little food cannot solve - he was occupied with the dog, naming it Bobby in the meantime, while the others went on, to explore the room. They moved the painting above the mantelpiece with magic, the curtains, even the cutlery - some of which Nyrus decided that it was a good idea to “borrow”. Nothing of use or clues about the baby Walter, or a monster. Witch Chop had an intimate moment by staring at the charcoal, then dashed out to check his door - it had no keyhole. He opened it to reveal a cloakroom that had several black cloaks and a top hat, which quite a few of our heroes wanted to try on. Only one door remained and Raegar took point and checked first. Not much could be discerned aside from part of a worktable. Nyrus took his favorite position, the one of the violent door opening. Most definitely his favorite room, the kitchen. After checking the stove and oven for some bread, Nyrus, Raegar, and Nehemia examined the dumbwaiter. Nothing there either. There was one more door in the kitchen. Nyrus followed his nose in search of food and discovered the pantry and not only. Hiding behind some crates, a very pale human, dressed in all white, extended his hand, and rapier in greeting. While not appearing friendly, the stranger didn’t appear to mean harm. He did leave his mark on Nyrus’ hand though. Introductions were made and the newcomer goes by Dalayur of Mount Celestia. When Witch Chop heard the stranger’s voice, he hid immediately in the cloakroom, while Franz, finally calming somewhat Bobby, went to join the others. All care for stealth went awry when the group tried to find Witch Chop which was nowhere to be found. He eventually emerged from his hiding place, wearing one of those black cloaks, yelling triumphantly “WITCH CHOOOOP” With everyone together now, an alliance is formed and everyone agrees that baby Walter needs to be found as soon as possible and get out of this house. Also, everyone is curious why Franz got Bobby to tag along and he explained that it is peculiar that the only living being they have found so far is a scared dog. With a makeshift rope leash and a piece of meat for the kitchen, Bobby is following along. The only way to go now was up the staircase.  The upper hall was lined with suits of armor with wolf-adorned helmets leading up to a mantelpiece. Hanging above, is a painting of a family, with two children, that look like the ones crying for help, and the father cradles a baby - which the mother is looking at with disgust. While inspecting the armors and realize they are as inanimate as they should, the group enters the first room with a small door. It appears to be a servants' room, where the dumbwaiter is connected. Nothing to see here. [...]

    C1E1 – Into the Mist

    Our story begins with three adventurers, Nyrus, Raegar, and Witch  Chop, meeting in a tavern in Darkwater to take on an escort mission. After expert negotiations from Nyrus' side, the payment remained the same, 75gp and maybe a bottle of wine for the entire group. Their benefactor, a merchant dwarf, ensured them that it is an easy trip from  Darkwater to Luskan, with the exception of the forest. Danger of wolves. In the morning, the adventurers embarked on their quest, following on foot a comically overloaded cart of goods. Upon nightfall, after entering the forest, they realized the difficulties of open-air camping,  as they had no tents, except the dwarf. The mist that started enveloping their camp was getting denser by the minute. Witch Chop took  to the trees and made himself comfortable there, while Nyrus fell asleep immediately. Raegar decided to keep watch first. Not long after his watch started, he was attacked by an unseen enemy,  who left him unconscious. Nyrus continued his nap, albeit forced to.  Witch Chop woke up and descended from his tree into the mist, but he was also taken out. All three of them woke up later in a barrel-top wagon, driven by a  young lady named Nehemia. Her good nature couldn’t leave those three barely clothed in the woods. She was not naive though to leave them  untied. Once they woke up, they started to ask questions to one another, only to be cut short by a sudden stop. Two adult werewolves and a kid attacked the wagon. Nehemia, Nyrus, Raegar, and Witch Chop tried to fight them off, as they heard the bigger one telling the kid not to kill them. It was then that they heard another voice join the fray. A human wielding a longsword came to their aid, but his sword was useless against the werewolves’ hide. Taking out a scroll, he uttered arcane words, killing the biggest of the three werewolves and scaring the other two off. While this stunt saved their lives, it severely damaged his vocal cords. Franz ran to their aid, bringing them about and helping them up. Once they toppled the wagon, and after Nyrus finally put his bottom into it, they went after Nehemia’s horse. On the way, they realized that a lone wolf was following them. Upon retrieving the horse, the wolf left in a hurry, making our tired heroes dash back to the cart. Back on the road and in the cart, our heroes get to know each other a  bit better. Nehemia reveals she’s a Vistana, no longer welcome, Nyrus is always in search of trouble and of a good time while he has a  Barovian name, Raegar was also looking for a way to enter Barovia for some reason, while Witch Chop sat there, repeating phrases in the others’ voices. Franz also revealed how he got his hands on that scroll and that he’s searching for his daughter after they were attacked by werewolves on the road. Right before the gates to the village, two frightened children begged for the heroes’ help. There was a monster in the basement of their house and their brother was trapped in the nursery. After disbelieving the children, the heroes nevertheless ventured into the big house they were being pointed at and started to investigate. The coat of arms on the shields hanging on the walls is a gold windmill on a red field. Raegar picked the shield to protect himself better, while Franz gave Nyrus the longsword that was resting upon the mantlepiece, also bearing the windmill at its hilt. In the meantime,  Witch Chop couldn’t detect any magic from his Detect Magic spell,  neither the presence of any undead. He did get a good handful of charcoal though. By exploring the big room on the ground floor, the heroes realize that it looks a lot like a hunter’s lodge. They helped themselves to three crossbows with bolts and quivers for each. The heroes feel that there’s something really wrong about this place but haven’t found out what yet…
