    Ethiopian Olympic Marathon Drama and Cocodona 250 has started.

    Ethiopia has a 35k to pick their Olympic marathon on Saturday and on Monday they say “not too fast”. The Cocodona 250 mile starts on Monday and athletes are “surprised” by the heat. Hello it’s Arizona! It’s not just the heat it’s the constant sun exposure. Plus a lot of climbing in the first 50k. https://linktr.ee/AND3RSON

    Birthdays, Empty Nests and Hamlet Again

    Why are birthdays a thing? I prefer Carolla’s Achievement Day instead. On top of birthday musings, add on a dollop of coaching empty nest and the annual start of another trip around the sun is rather dour.     Day 2 of the Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee was a solo one on the bike path with plenty of urban outdoorsmen.  Many athletes would also go out for late afternoon excursions on the roads, squeezing in a few extra easy kilometres. This loose planning was something that really struck us during our time with the group. Their typical schedule included workout sessions on Tuesday (track), Thursday (long run) and Saturday (fartlek/intervals). And @Nico__Young__ w/ some phenomenal pacing   Following in the footsteps of Beth Potter, Norway's Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal ran 14:39 for 5k on the roads in Norway today. That's faster than Beatrice Chepkoech's 14:43 world record, but it doesn't look like Grovdal's time will be ratified as a WR.  Zack Beavin from Lexington Kentucky finished the 43rd annual Strolling Jim 40-Mile Run (41.2 miles)- in 3 hours, 55 minutes, 44 seconds to eclipse Canadian Olympic marathoner Andy Jones' previous record of 3:59:26 on a near-perfect day.  Jones was the only runner to break 4 hours in the 43 years of the race - until today. Jones set his record in 1991. But more climbers are still arriving, and the count is expected to approach the 2019 record of 382 permits. Including Sherpas and other support staff, Everest Base Camp will grow into a small city of over 700 people in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, China has chosen to extend its 2020 closure and plans to keep the Tibet side of the mountain off-limits to all foreigners this spring.     April 30, 2021 / Training Day

    Up late and it’s the weather is heating up! Two workouts and two naps and bed before 9pm because tomorrow I start my second Great Race Across Tennessee.  The goal is a faster RAT and BAT this year in the GVRAT.
