Jennifer Selby Long | Leading Through Transformation

Most leaders don't fail because of bad strategy — they fail because no one told them leadership is a complete career change, and the habits that got them here won't get them there.   In this episode: • Why the biggest barrier in any transformation sits between the leader's own ears — and how to move it • What Jennifer witnessed at Airbnb and LinkedIn that most leadership programs never prepare you for • Why post-acquisition integration is a leadership problem disguised as a logistics problem • How to lead across cultures without stereotyping — and why personality matters more than nationality Jennifer Selby Long is the Founder & CEO of Selby Group LLC, an executive coaching firm with 28 years of practice helping leaders navigate radical organizational change. She has coached 300+ senior leaders across technology, publishing, food and beverage, and cybersecurity, with deep roots in Silicon Valley and a growing presence on the East Coast. Her work shaped leadership culture at companies including Airbnb, LinkedIn, and Cisco during some of their most explosive and turbulent growth periods. Gerard Holland: AI-Native African Talent & Global Hiring

What if the talent gap your company keeps trying to solve already has an answer — and it's sitting in Nairobi, Johannesburg, or Addis Ababa? In this episode: • Why Gerard Holland moved from Melbourne accounting to building a 250-person workforce infrastructure across three African countries — and what a conversation with Nelson Mandela's grandson had to do with it • The legal and cultural risks of hiring offshore directly — and why the 'just pay them as a contractor' model is a liability waiting to surface • How TalentMatch Africa trains professionals to be AI-native using Claude, and why attitude toward learning now matters more than any credential • Why the localization and content industry keeps treating Africa as a future market instead of a present-day talent source — and what it would take to change that Gerard Holland is the founder and CCO of TalentMatch Africa, a global employment platform placing university-educated African professionals into full-time, infrastructure-backed roles for companies across Australia, Canada, the UK, and the US. He previously built InternMatch, a graduate placement business that expanded across Australia, the UK, and Canada, and developed the Global Employment Challenge to address structural youth unemployment at scale. Gerard's background as an outsourced CFO and investment banker during the GFC gives him a systems lens that shapes how he thinks about workforce risk, cost, and culture in distributed teams. Chris Dale | Grief, Money & Leadership After Loss

What does it look like when grief walks into the boardroom — and nobody names it? Chris Dale has built his entire practice around exactly that moment: when loss meets money, identity, and the pressure to keep performing. In this episode: • Why the first six months after a loss are the most financially dangerous — and what decisions should never be made during that window • The difference between intuitive and analytical grievers, and how that shapes every financial conversation Chris has with clients • What a leader in acute grief actually looks like from the inside, and what the people around them should be watching for • Why three to five days of bereavement leave is a policy built for logistics, not humans — and what global organizations should change first Chris Dale is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Certified Financial Transitionist (CeFT®), and the founder of Life After Grief Financial Planning, based in Orlando, Florida. He specializes in helping people navigate the financial and emotional weight that follows the loss of a loved one. His recently published book, *Life After Grief: Holding the Numbers with Shaking Hands*, draws on decades of personal and professional experience at the intersection of money, trauma, and resilience.   Connect with Chris Dale: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chris-dale-cfp Website: https://www.lifeaftergrieffp.com   Subscribe: https://localization-fireside-chat.simplecast.com/ CreditsHost: Robin Ayoub, Founder, Localization Fireside Chat Connect and watch moreWebsite: www.L10NFiresideChat.comSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5OoURgc29R31XPGzOWL9iXBe a guest: https://calendly.com/robin-ayoub/localization-fireside-chat-podcast-recordingLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robinayoub/ Support the showShare the episode with a friend. Talia Zur Baruch & Dr. Rafal Jaworski: Vibe Coding for Localization

The localization industry has spent decades treating technology as something that happens to it. Talia Zur Baruch and Dr. Rafal Jaworski are building the school that teaches professionals to make it happen for them — starting with a working AI prototype in ten classroom hours. In this episode: • Why vibe coding is a genuine skill shift and not just a buzzword — and what a localization professional can actually build with it inside n8n and Claude Code • What recursive LLMs and deep agents do inside a localization workflow that a standard API call to an LLM simply cannot • The hard truth about why companies are buying Anthropic and OpenAI tokens and then failing — because nobody is training their teams on the business problem behind the tools • How the linguist's role is evolving from managing language tasks to managing the agents that handle them — and what that means for every localization manager's job description right now Talia Zur Baruch has spent 25 years driving international expansion at companies including Google Maps, LinkedIn, and SurveyMonkey, and is the founder of Global Sake, a community of 3,000+ tech leaders, and LocLearn, an upskill school focused on agentic AI for localization and global product professionals. Dr. Rafal Jaworski is a computer scientist, NLP researcher at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and AI Technical Lead at PwC, where he builds and ships production-grade AI systems. Together they developed LocLearn's vibe coding and agentic AI course, where participants with no software programming background build functional AI-powered localization workflow prototypes using n8n and Claude Code. How Podcast Guesting Builds Authority, Clients & Real Friends | LFC Ep. 259

Most guests show up to podcast interviews with a topic. Noémi Beres has spent six years helping entrepreneurs show up with a conversation — and the difference is everything. In this episode: • Why podcast guesting is a relationship marketing strategy, not a promotional platform, and what most guests get wrong in the first five minutes • How Noémi profiles clients, sharpens fuzzy messages, and matches the right voice to the right room before a single pitch goes out • The human cost of AI-automated booking agencies — and what a boutique, relationship-first approach protects that automation can't replicate • What actually happens after the recording stops, and why that's where the real ROI of podcast guesting lives Noémi Beres is the Founder and CEO of Podcast Connections, a boutique podcast booking agency that helps entrepreneurs, authors, and thought leaders get placed on quality shows and show up ready to deliver. After nearly two decades in content creation, online marketing, and the travel industry, she pivoted during the 2020 pandemic to build a global relationship business from Cyprus. She works with clients across the US, Canada, and the UK, and believes that meaningful conversations — not follower counts — are what change lives and grow businesses. Gary Kalaci: Apertera Purpose-Built AI for Regulated Industries

What happens when a lawyer-turned-interpreter decides to rebuild the language industry from the inside out? Gary Kalaci has spent two decades doing exactly that—and his answer looks nothing like what most AI vendors are selling. In this episode: • Why Apertera (formerly Alexa Translations) rebranded—and what the camera aperture metaphor reveals about their human-AI philosophy • How purpose-built AI for regulated industries differs architecturally from generic LLM tools • Why organizational context compounds over time and becomes a true competitive moat • The build-vs-buy framework Gary uses with enterprise clients evaluating AI investments Gary Kalaci is the Founder and CEO of Apertera, a Canadian AI-first language solutions company serving the legal, financial, and regulatory sectors. A former interpreter for UNICEF and Save the Children and a practicing lawyer, Gary has spent over two decades building specialized language technology trusted by some of Canada's largest organizations. Chris Gavre: Mobile Homes, Land Packages & Affordable Housing

Most people in real estate are chasing the same thing — flips, apartments, prestige projects. Chris Gavre looked at what everyone was ignoring and built a scalable business around it.   In this episode: • Why Chris walked away from retail real estate within months and what that decision taught him about following the crowd • How the land home package model works end to end — from finding raw land to selling a finished product in under two months • Why manufactured housing is outperforming traditional asset classes at a 20% annualized return versus a 6–7% cap rate on commercial • The biggest mindset block holding people back from replicating this model — and why it is almost never actually about the money   Chris Gavre started with a pressure washer and a lot of ambition at age 20. Within five years he had built a rental portfolio of nearly 150 doors, moved through wholesaling, flipping, and retail real estate, and landed on the model he and his partner Robert now run at scale: buying land, placing brand new manufactured homes on it, and selling the finished product. Highcastle Properties completes roughly 50 of these land home packages per year. Chris also coaches others on replicating the exact model, holding nothing back.   Connect with Chris Gavre: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrisgavre Website: https://highcastleproperties.com   Subscribe: https://localization-fireside-chat.simplecast.com/ CreditsHost: Robin Ayoub, Founder, Localization Fireside Chat Connect and watch moreWebsite: www.L10NFiresideChat.comSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5OoURgc29R31XPGzOWL9iXBe a guest: https://calendly.com/robin-ayoub/localization-fireside-chat-podcast-recordingLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robinayoub/ Support the showShare the episode with a friend. Chris Nyhuis: Defending the Infrastructure the World Can't Afford to Lose

What happens when the systems that feed, connect, and power entire countries get hacked? Chris Nyhuis has spent 16 years building the answer — and his clients have never had a breach.   In this episode: • Why the average organization takes 287 days to detect a threat — and how Vigilant reduces that to four hours • The frozen food warehouse incident that convinced Chris cybersecurity was a matter of life and death, not just data • How AI has dramatically lowered the cost and speed of attacks — and why defenders are still losing ground • What CEOs get dangerously wrong about cybersecurity, and the one thing Chris wishes every executive would do before their next board meeting   Chris Nyhuis is the co-founder and CEO of Vigilant, a Cincinnati-based cybersecurity company that has protected critical infrastructure — food supply chains, telecom systems, healthcare networks, and defense clients — for over 16 years with zero client breaches. He built Vigilant on a principle the industry largely abandoned: that forensically validated, full-stack detection is the only defense that actually works. He is also a committed philanthropist, donating 25 percent of Vigilant's profit to orphan care and anti-human trafficking efforts worldwide.   Connect with Chris Nyhuis: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrisnyhuis Website: https://www.vigilantdefense.com   Subscribe: https://localization-fireside-chat.simplecast.com/ CreditsHost: Robin Ayoub, Founder, Localization Fireside Chat Connect and watch moreWebsite: www.L10NFiresideChat.comSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5OoURgc29R31XPGzOWL9iXBe a guest: https://calendly.com/robin-ayoub/localization-fireside-chat-podcast-recordingLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robinayoub/ Support the showShare the episode with a friend.
