    Jason Grunebaum on the SALT Project and Translating Uday Prakash

    Writer Jeyamohan on 'Tella Enugu' ( 'తెల్ల ఏనుగు' నవల గురించి రచయిత జయమోహన్)

    'Tella Enugu' is a Telugu translation of the novel 'Vellai Yaanai' originally written in Tamil by writer Jeyamohan. The novel is of historical fiction based on certain true incidents during the British Raj of Late 19th Century. In this conversation Jeyamohan talked about the back drop of the novel, the situation of Dalits in those days, How the British Raj used the caste system to exploit and rule India among other things. The Writer is highly regarded as one of the most creative and Prolific writers from India. He writes mostly in Tamil and also in Malayalam.  His output includes Ten novels, ten volumes of short stories/plays, thirteen literary criticisms, five biographies of writers, six introductions to Indian and Western literature, three volumes on Hindu and Christian philosophy and numerous other translations and collections. He has also written scripts for Malayalam and Tamil movies.  His writing is heavily influenced by the works of humanitarian thinkers Leo Tolstoy and Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Drawing on the strength of his life experiences and extensive travel around India, Jeyamohan re-examines and interprets the essence of India’s rich literary and classical traditions. Satish Chapparike is a bilingual writer, accomplished journalist, and the founder-director of the Book Brahma Literature Festival—a premier literary event that celebrates the richness and diversity of Indian languages and voices. As a festival director, he is widely recognized for curating inclusive, multilingual spaces that bring together writers, readers, Publishers, Translator s and cultural thinkers from across the country. Hailing from coastal Karnataka and globally trained as a Chevening Scholar at the University of Westminster, Satish seamlessly blends rural rootedness with global perspective in both his literary work and curatorial practice. His is an acclaimed Kannada writer and the winner of the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award. His latest novel, Ghandruk, has made a notable impact in the Kannada literary world and is now published in Telugu and Malayalam, with Tamil and Marathi translations slated for release in September 2025. A seasoned journalist, Satish has worked with leading publications and channels such as Prajavani, TV9 Kannada, and The Sunday Indian.  Satish is the founder of Book Brahma Digital Media, a leading Kannada literary platform that supports books, authors, and publishers. Her essays, published in Neeli magazine, introduce overlooked women thinkers with depth and insight. . Kirupalakshmi K has an MBA and a background in marketing, but literature has always been her real passion. An avid reader and a budding writer, she has written short stories, essays and spoken about literature in various spaces.  Their Publishing house Manasa was founded to nurture and amplify women-centric literary works, through translation.     Sophie Hughes on 'Perfection'

    Today we are talking to Sophie Hughes as a part of our International Booker 2025 series. her translation of Vincenzo Latronico’s Perfection  was short listed.  Its the first book she translated from Italian into English. Sophie Hughes is a literary translator from Spanish and Italian, and is the most nominated translator in the 10-year history International Booker Prize. Her translations have been longlisted or shortlisted for the International Booker Prize five times.  She is a judge for the International Booker Prize 2026.  Hughes is the translator of more than 20 novels.
