Calvary Grace

Tom Cogle

Calvary Grace Assembly, a group of people who have come into a right relationship with God, the Father, and with one another through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, understand our mission to be threefold: •To Worship the Lord freely in Spirit and in Truth; •To Evangelize the World by proclaiming the gospel of reconciliation at home and abroad; and •To Disciple Believers according to the uncompromised Word of God, in order to produce godly individuals and strong families who reflect the image of Jesus Christ. Therefore diligently seeking the Lord Jesus, we recognize the need for Christ in the lives of all people. We will minister to their spiritual, emotional, and physical needs by communicating His vision and love to our congregation, local communities, and the world through Worship, Evangelism, and Discipleship.

THE GOOD WORK – WHEN YOU CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE

Each one of us has a good work to do. We may not see it yet, but it’s often right there in front of our eyes. For Nehemiah, it was a crumbled wall. For you, it could be an injustice in the world, or a need you see what no one else does. During this series, we will learn how Nehemiah responded to his own calling and learn how we can change our own world just by leaning into the unique calling that God has put in front of each of us. This four-week series will take a closer look at the good work God called Nehemiah to do and show us how his story can be an example in our own lives. God has called us all to a good work in our world, in our neighborhood, or in our family. This series will challenge us to find our purpose, understand our opposition, and give us the tools and encouragement to live out our calling. The Good Work:When You Can’t Take it AnymoreText: Nehemiah 1:2-6, 11; 2:4-5, 18Pastor Tom CogleSunday, June 30, 2019 Our God specializes in using very ordinary, everyday people. What do you do when you don’t know what to do?HOW DO YOU BEGIN THE GOOD WORK?1.You Sit Down to Cry.We feel so distant from the crisis, what can we do?•You choose to either push the pain away and settle down in your comfort or you choose to let the pain into your heart to motivate you to action. What breaks your heart? 2.YOU KNEEL DOWN TO PRAY.What you pray about really reflects what you believe about God. 3.YOU STAND UP TO ACT.Tears turn to prayers and prayers drive you to action. You may not finish alone, and you may not do it alone, but nothing will happen until you start it.Somebody’s got do something—Might as well be me!Do the GOOD WORK!

THINGS JESUS NEVER SAID – “You Don’t Need to Forgive Them”

These days it’s easy to see life the way we want to. We can filter our images, pick the news we want to hear, and listen only to the viewpoints that agree with us. When we do that, we start to distort our view of the world. The same thing can happen to our view of God. We reshape our perception of Him into what we want to believe, or what we want to think about others. Jesus came to bring us the truth about God and His plan for us, and it doesn’t always sound like what you may think. This series cuts through the noise of the world’s perceptions of Jesus and what it means to follow Him, in ways that may be surprising to some people. It plays off the idea of memes as jokes, rhetorical devices, and sources of misinformation to debunk popular misconceptions and bring clear truth. Series: Things Jesus Never Said Message: “You Don’t Need To Forgive Them” Text: Matthews 6:9-15 Sunday, April 28, 2019 Pastor Tom Cogle Jesus did not say:•“Forgive us our debts even though we are still holding grudges.”•“I’ll forgive you, but you don’t have to forgive what someone else did to you.”Forgiving others creates lots of emotion and rightly so!“You don’t know what someone did to me.”Two levels of pain:1.When someone hurts of abuses you.2.When someone hurts or abuses someone you love. How do you forgive something that seems unforgivable?•Remember, He’s not MY Father, but OUR Father.•We are His children – It makes God happy when His children get along.•Unforgiveness hurts His heart!“But what if I’m not there yet—Still mad—What do I do?”•Prayer a prayer asking forgiveness•Your prayer may or may not change others, but it always changes you!Forgive – “hurl it away”Forgive because God has forgiven you.“Holding a grudge doesn’t make you strong. It makes you bitter. Forgiving doesn’t make you weak. It sets you free.”Forgiveness empowers you to set the prisoner free, and you realize the prisoner was you.
