    The God Who Provides a Mediator

    Why would a loving God warn His own people not to come near Him? In Exodus 18, Moses spends an entire day serving God’s people from morning until evening. By every human standard, it was a successful day. Yet Jethro’s surprising verdict is, “What you are doing is not good.” This passage exposes something many of us quietly carry: the exhausting belief that if we just worked harder, served more, or wasted less time, we might finally be enough. But the gospel tells a different story. Jesus didn’t come to help us finish our unfinished lists—He came to finish the work we never could. On the cross He declared, “It is finished,” offering us the approval, rest, and identity we have spent our lives trying to earn.     After Israel's dramatic rescue from Egypt, they quickly discover that freedom does not mean independence. Through bitter water, daily manna, and repeated moments of need, God teaches His people a lesson they would spend the rest of their lives learning: we need Him, and He is here.
