King George V’s Children: Scandalous Siblings 2/2

King George V’s Children: Scandalous Siblings 2/2

Queen Victoria’s great-grand children, the children of King George V were a fascinating bunch. The two eldest brothers Edward VIII and George VI both took their turns on the throne. The four younger siblings never wore crowns but still got into plenty of mischief. They were:
Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood who dedicated herself to improving the lives of women,
Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester a stoic war hero
Prince George, Duke of Kent, an artistic bisexual tomcat
Prince John, a lonely boy who died tragically young.
    Let’s meet them...

King George V’s Children: Brother Kings 1/2

King George V’s Children: Brother Kings 1/2

Queen Victoria’s great-grand children, the children of King George V were a fascinating bunch. The two eldest brothers both took their turns on the throne. Edward VIII abdicated amid scandal because he wanted to marry a divorced woman, Wallis Simpson and because he never really wanted to be king anyway. He nearly toppled the British monarchy in the process. His younger brother picked up the pieces and became King George VI. He was a shy man with a stutter but he and his admirable wife, Elizabeth tirelessly boosted moral during WWII and became heroes to their people. Let’s meet them...

Mary & George Villiers - The King’s Gay Lover & His Mom

Mary & George Villiers - The King’s Gay Lover & His Mom

The story of George Villiers and King James I & VI reads like a stylish, sexy and scandalous historic drama series. It probably hasn’t been made into one before because, until recently, Hollywood wasn’t too keen on portraying homosexual characters and relationships, authentically. However, the new Starz series, Mary and George promises to finally introduce the wider world to the dashing country commoner who won the heart of a king and was raised so high he had no where to go but plummeting back to earth. The series emphasises George’s relationship with his ambitions mother, Mary who encouraged and facilitated his royal seduction. So let’s travel back to the Stuart court of England and meet the real Mary and George Villiers. Get out your cups and saucers, because I will be spilling a lot of tea with this one.

Haustierfreund🐶🐭🐰 ,

5 Stars but…

I binged all of your YouTube videos, and I’m glad that you’re revisiting videos and uploading them.
However, I had hoped that you would correct something you said in your “a history of childbirth” video when uploading this: Maternity corsets were not for hiding pregnancies. Sure, some may have done that, but (like tightlacing) that’s not what the general population did. These maternity corsets were, just like any other corset, for support. It even could have been harmful to not wear a corset during pregnancy, because if you wear a corset on a daily basis from a relatively young age, the muscles in your chest and back get weaker. Thus they wouldn’t been able to support a big bay belly.
Also these maternity corsets were laced on the sides to accommodate for the constant growth of the belly.
Apart from that, I really love your podcast and think it is very well researched and very entertaining.

Entertaining, but not very accurate

I’ve been reading a lot about the Sultanate of women and Hürrem in particular, so was interested to listen to the episodes on this. But a lot of assumptions or rumors were presented as fact, from concubines former names to Ibrahim Pasha supposedly being married to the Sultan’s sister. Names were mispronounced (it’s Cihangir, not Cihangish) and some family relations were mixed up (Osman was Ahmed’s son, not his half brother’s).
Otherwise entertaining, but if historians are unsure then it shouldn’t be presented as fact.
