Just Roll Tape 65 (It's No Secret - Hamlin Avenue Boyz)

When you have known someone for an extended period-of-time; it seems reasonable to assume that there are generally no (or very few) secrets between either party.  Defining what is a secret vs what is something you just didn’t know about the other person becomes the more interesting part of this dynamic. The ‘Boyz’ have known each other for going on 3 score and 4 years now.  And during that incredibly long period time, dem Boyz have had few if any secrets between them.  But you never stop learning about someone so long as you keep the relationship important and keep in communication and dem Boyz have certainly done that.  The more important question to ask someone is not “do you have any secrets”.  Its “ can you keep a secret”?  Now that is where the rubber meets the road.  And this is where we learned something about Vince in this episode.  Truth be told.  Vince can definitely keep a secret.  How would one know?  Cuz he said so. So here comes “It’s no secret” The 21st recorded conversational collaboration between dem Hamlin Avenue Boyz.  Enjoy!!!JustRollTape@mail.comVince HamlinEdward Hamlin TRACKS:Music Band NamesTolerating DiscomfortBuildingsCarry That WeightIt’s No SecretHappy Now? Just Roll Tape 64 (The Hamlin Avenue Boys - Do You Have A Lighter - Feast Of Consequences)

There is a somewhat common thematic element to the environment in which the Boyz record conversation in the Homan Studio.  That is the almost constant companion consultant - Jack Herer.  He is almost always present to offer his calm, relaxing, humorous, and often perplexing perspective on conversations, music and who-knows-what and thank goodness for all of that.  So, during a pre-recording meeting in the studio one day, Edward kept asking Vince if he had a lighter so he could begin the meeting with what they refer to as a ‘ceremony’.  And this went on periodically throughout the meeting as well.  Well not surprisingly after multiple requests from Edward that carried over for several hours into the actual recording session; Vince had the genius idea of suggesting “hey, clearly the ceremonies have done their job so why don’t we just title this entire day and the recording session DO YOU HAVE A LIGHTER”?  Duh.So here comes “Do You Have A Lighter” (A Feast Of Consequences)  Enjoy!!!JustRollTape@mail.comVince HamlinEdward Hamlin TRACKS:Smokin N DrinkinBullytownPizza BreadNear MissGoing ViralBetter HusbandFeast Of Consequences MUSIC COMPOSITION / PERFORMANCE CREDITS: “Riders On The Storm 1971 Doors Music / Mezerg 2025 TikTok Performance“Off The Cuff Blues Jam” 2024 David Levi / David Levi 2024 TikTok Performance3.  “Use Me” Bill Withers 1972 / Bill Withers Live 19724.   “I’m A Song” Steven Wilson, Jr 2025 / Steven Wilson, Jr 2025 Live At The Print Shop5. “Summertime” George Gershwin 1935 / Marcus King 2025 TikTok Performance6. “Sure Thing” Ludovic Navarre 2012 / St Germain 2025 TikTok Performance7.  “Feast Of Consequences” Fish 2013 / Fish 2013 RECORDING ENGINEERS / BOARD OPERATORS: Dag NabitInt YouuCumin Siide EXECUTIVE PRODUCER:Tiffany Rosedale HOMAN STUDIOS CONSULTING:Jack Herer and an unnamed female friend? There have been and continue to be several musicians and conversational podcast artists who call the Homan Studios ‘home’.  One particular artist is Ms. Susan Coronet.  Her most recent effort came in the form of an album of conversations with 1/2 of the Hamlin Avenue Boyz, Edward Hamlin.  You can check that episode out on the ‘Just Roll Tape’ Podcast on Spotify or wherever you point your ears towards any podcast. Specifically, take a listen to: Just Roll Tape 46 (“Embryonic Journey”).   Susan recently stopped by the Homan Studios late one night only to find the Hamlin Avenue Boyz deep in to the night enjoying the company of their favorite studio consultant, Jack Herer with an unnamed friend, and deep in to some interesting conversations.  The Boyz invited Susan to sit-in with one of their ‘ceremonies’ and then have her presence contribute to several subjects as you will hear. Thank you Susan for taking the Boyz up on their offer to feature your collaboration on this latest Hamlin Avenue Boyz adventure that can be found if you Just Roll Tape 63 (“When In Rome” - I Can See For Miles) So here comes “When In Rome” (I Can See For Miles)  Enjoy!!! “Where have you Boyz been? How bout getting back in the studio?”   Yes we have been getting asked that regularly as you might expect. Whenever we’re together or on our own and moving around the Southside of the city with broad shoulders meeting with folks who follow the Boyz’ HAB Podcast, that question inevitably comes up.  Well, honestly, we Boyz have just been living and doing our thing.  Unfortunately, our thing has not included stops by the Homan Studio for some recording time in quite some time.  That is until now.  Fortunately, the Homan Studio remains a pretty active place.   Other recording artists and projects continue to occupy time in the studio whether or not we Boyz can be found.  With hours of raw conversation still in the can from prior recording sessions and now new studio time scheduled; the Boyz have rediscovered that sometimes time away produces delicious experiences that definitely fuel creative conversations.  Well that and input from their studio consultant Jack Herer.  60% of the time Jack Herer’s input helps every time. 7. Just Roll Tape 60 (The Hamlin Avenue Boyz "Inside My Head")

    15.03.2024

Just Roll Tape 60 (The Hamlin Avenue Boyz "Inside My Head")

Often, before The Hamlin Avenue Boyz even begin to ‘roll tape’ in the Homan Studio - Vince and Edward will essentially just b******t-a-bit to get the conversational juices flowing. While there is usually a clearly identified starting point Where the Boyz will signal the booth to ‘roll tape’; many times the tape has been running since the Boyz entered the control room headed to the recording area of the studio. All happening while there is cool music, usually selected by the engineer, playing in the distant background.  BTW - That very music playing in the background can at times influence what conversational direction the Boyz sometimes choose to take. It may also sometimes show up as the soundtrack backdrop or bed for the segment. This b******t-a-bit period has produced so many moments over the years that the entire Hamlin Avenue Boyz Podcast Team are all usually glad they got it captured.  All of the tracks that comprise “Inside My Head”, the 16th album of podcast segments produced by The Hamlin Avenue Boyz, were all born from b******t-a-bit beginnings.  Every one of them. These are definitely something to sprinkle in with your next beautiful 'tug on da glass chalice' or self-assembled Doobie ceremony.  The Boyz did (and do)…..can’t you tell? Just Roll Tape 59 (The Hamlin Avenue Boyz "Would You?"

How many times throughout your life have you been presented with the question “Would you”?  For most of us, it is probably at least a few times if not more.  This type of question can come up during conversations with any number of friends, family, strangers, listeners to the Hamlin Avenue Boyz Podcast, and life directions covering a whole host of subjects and situations.  Well, as is sometimes the case, Da Boyz loves to entertain hypotheticals in conversation just about more than anything else.  The reason?  They just love (or would prefer) putting themselves in awkward situations in the laboratory (aka the studio) versus real life.  I mean who wouldn’t? It’s just safer.  One particularly late night of recording produced one of those golden moments that you can hear on tracks 6 and 7 of their latest episode, which was prompted by a communication from a ‘listener’.  Thank you James from Davenport, IA.  So to everybody and anybody listening ‘out there’ - What would you do?  Would you?  As always - Da Boyz is grateful to you for pointing your ears in the direction of Hamlin Avenue now and then and for all your communications to the show.  And we do mean ‘all’.  We encourage you (if the feeling arises) to send the Boyz your comments, questions, or hypotheticals.  Send a shout-out to The Hamlin Avenue Boyz in care of: JustRollTape@mail.com Vince Hamlin Edward Hamlin TRACKS: 5 Ways To DieDon’t Touch MeIt’s All GoodUnibrowWould You?
