    Would a Tradwife Survive the Good Old Days? A Yesteryear Book Report Special

    In this Book Report special, Cin is joined by fellow Bookworm Baddie Brooklyn to discuss Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke, a novel about a tradwife influencer, motherhood, marriage, gender roles, religious expectations, and the fantasy of returning to “simpler times.” We start with a non-spoiler discussion of the book, Natalie as a character, tradwife influencer culture, and what the story says about identity, ambition, religion, and gender roles. Then we move into spoilers to talk about pronatalism, reproductive pressure, motherhood as performance, the manosphere, family control, class privilege, and the difference between romanticizing the past and actually having to live in it.     The Pressure to Procreate Explained: Birth Rates, Power, & the "Right" Kind of Family | Lesson 019, Part 2

    In Part 2 of “When Are You Having Kids? The Pressure to Procreate, Explained,” Cin is joined again by Asa and Brooklyn to continue the lesson on pronatalism: the policy, practice, or belief that encourages people to have children. This time, we move from personal baby pressure into the darker history of how reproduction becomes political. We discuss “race suicide” panic, eugenics, white nationalism, Mussolini’s Battle for Births, Nazi motherhood medals, and how governments have used motherhood, birthrates, and family ideals as tools of nationalism, racism, and control. Then we look at the post-WWII nuclear family, the myth of the “traditional family,” the GI Bill, housing discrimination, gender roles, and how U.S. culture still celebrates babies while offering patchy support for parents. This episode asks: when society says it wants more babies, who is being encouraged to reproduce, who is being controlled, and what would real reproductive agency actually require?     The Pressure to Procreate, Explained: The Language of Baby Pressure | Lesson 019, Part 1

    Having kids is one of the most personal decisions someone can make, so why does everyone else seem to have an opinion on it? In Part 1 of The Pressure to Procreate, Explained: The Language of Baby Pressure, Cin is joined by Asa and Brooklyn to unpack pronatalism: the policy, practice, or belief that encourages people to have children. We break down the language of baby pressure, from “when are you starting a family?” to “you’ll change your mind,” and discuss how phrases like childfree, childless, family planning, and settling down reveal hidden assumptions about adulthood, gender, and family. This episode also explores the myth of maternal instinct, the different expectations placed on mothers and fathers, and why supporting people who want children is not the same as pressuring everyone to have them. Then we begin the history section with Anthony Comstock, Comstockery, and how restricting access to birth control information became a form of reproductive control. This is Part 1 of a two-part lesson. In Part 2, we continue into race suicide, eugenics, fascist motherhood campaigns, the myth of the traditional family, and why “family values” often comes without actual family support.     Beyond the Binary: A Global History of Gender Diversity | Lesson 18

    What if there has never been just one way to understand gender? In this Pride Month special, we're traveling around the world to explore how different cultures have understood gender throughout history.     Hidden in Plain Sight: A History of Lesbianism | Lesson 016

    If women who loved women have always existed, why is their history so much harder to find?
