Magic Rays of Light

I listened to the 2024 Wish List episode and could not believe my ears. The hosts either were trying to prank me, or they have absolutely no idea what Apple TV as a platform or the company Apple as a whole are about. Among the “highlights”: - They suggested Apple should add keyboard and cursor support to the Apple TV because it would open up the platform as a low cost computing platform. That is what the Mac Mini is for, and Apple do not tend to cannibalize their own products these days. It also doesn’t make sense on a purely practical level, because anybody who has ever tried using a computer connected to a TV at any distance knows it is a ludicrously bad experience. - Support for tracking children carrying AirTags so the Apple TV would automatically blur inappropriate scenes when a child walks in. Cool idea, but no way that is going to happen. Even putting the problematic nature of tracking children aside, AirTags are especially criticised because they can be used to track people, and a bunch of safeguards were put in place to discourage the practice. At least you won’t have to worry about having to quickly turning of your show because you will hear your wildly beeping child coming down the stairs really early. - Haptic feedback when watching movies. How on earth would they do that? Have the remote vibrate in sync with the explosions? How is that going to work for battery life? How big is the remote supposed to be? Or do they start shipping the Apple TV with a nice force feedback enabled pillow? How is any of this going to work for mulitple users? Again, these hosts have no idea what they are talking about. None. These are ideas that could come from users on a subreddit dedicated to intentionally whacky Linux concepts. How this show is being promoted by the generally really knowledgable crew at Macstories is beyond me. Do not listen to this show! It is not worth your time.
