    Make, Build, Grow: Leaving the System

    Learning to make, build, or grow something yourself can be very rewarding, but most importantly can help remove dependencies on the system. Systems that make our lives more convenient are often times not healthy or environmentally friendly. In the worst cases they violate basic human rights.     We Bought Our Donkey a Donkey

    In this episode I give an update on our donkey Hank and talk about our new burro Gus. These two have become good buddies and will soon get to run and enjoy the pasture together.     Blood, Sweat Equity, and Tears: How We Saved For Our Property

    Four years ago we were only dreaming of how our future homestead would look. Figuring out how to afford a large property with a house and animals seemed impossible, or at least that it would take a decade for us to save up the funds needed. Although it took less than half of the time we had planned initially, several years of really hard work finally paid off.     We Bought a Mammoth Donkey

    New animals on the homestead are always exciting. This is the first equine that we have owned together and we are excited to learn how to train and work with donkeys.  We learned a lot about what makes donkeys special while researching the best animals for our farm and we share a lot of it in this podcast.     Chickens: The Gateway Drug to Homesteading

    We take a dive deep into things to know about raising chickens, pro's and con's, and why they make a great starter animal for homesteading. Our flock has grown since getting our first 12 chickens three and a half years ago. Whether you're on a quarter-acre lot in suburbia or on a larger homestead, chickens are great for many purposes. Listen in on what we've learned about the feathery beasts in the short time we've had them.  Here is our introduction to training dogs around chickens video! Kathleen also put a great video on how to raise baby chicks. We're quickly coming into winter so start thinking about how to get your flock ready for winter.     Starting Our Homestead

    We finally moved out of suburbia!! Well we don't quite have a house right now, but we have the land. We've come a long way from our small third of an acre lot and we want to share our plans with you all. This next chapter is going to be an exciting one and we're adding in a podcast so we can push out even more content. We are going to learn so much from starting a homestead from scratch and we want you there with us every step along the way. We recently posted a new YouTube video on the same topic if you prefer that medium. I also posted a FREE Farm Loan Calculator article on our website where you can download my Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that will help you plan and budget for a farm property of your own.
