    Living Waters for a Thirsty World

    In the Gospel of John, Jesus speaks words that echo across centuries: “Let anyone who is thirsty come and drink… and out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.” This image is powerful enough to rise above religious boundaries.     How are You Known, and by Whom?

    In Ephesians 1:15, Paul writes that he has heard of the believers’ faith in the Lord Jesus and their love toward all. He heard about it, not because they announced it, not because they advertised it, not because they created a public image, but because their lives bore witness to something unmistakable. Their faith and their love were so alive, so embodied, so real that word traveled. Their lives spoke for them. And so the question arises again: how are we known? It is not by the faith we profess with our lips, but by the faith we embody in our lives.     There are so many acts and gestures that ring hollow it is not even funny. Genuine acts of courtesy are taken for granted. We are missing the experience of simple apologies, and have forgotten the simple acknowledgement of extending a word of gratitude. These affronts add up, and there is a quietly kept inventory.     The Good Disciple

    How are you known? The truth of your heart is not found in what you say it is revealed in how you live. Words can declare belief, but actions expose the truth of that belief. And in a world overflowing with declarations, opinions, and proclamations of faith, the quiet testimony of a life aligned with Christ speaks with a clarity that no speech can rival. As a good disciple, we work to have our behaviors match our spoken commitment.
