Kevin Hall spent 21 years at the US National Institutes of Health and became known globally for his pioneering work on ultra-processed foods. In April he unexpectedly took early retirement, citing censorship under the Trump administration. Now he has co-authored a book with the journalist Julia Belluz that aims to bust myths and challenge wellness orthodoxy on everything from weight loss and metabolism to supplements and wearables. So informative, relevant, interesting, well-researched. I have been listening for over 2 years and only skipped a handful of episodes. Often waiting for the next one to come out. Having a mix of health, technology, climate change and complex science keeps my knowledge base big and introduces me to intriguing topics I would have never looked up myself. I have often used information out of these podcasts for orals, our school Radioshow or for essay topics.

As a factual and science orientated podcast, I found the analysis of the concept a little wierd and light weight. And surprisingly there was no mention of, or discussion about, the Climate Crisis as a possible rational driver behind the concept. Of course, localisation to reduce one‘s carbon footprint is vital to mitigate the impact of the Climate Crisis and, therefore, being able to „live“ and function as local as possible to one‘s home ticks many of the boxes here.
