Fearsome Critters: The Gumberoo of the Pacific Northwest

👻 Show-Me Spirits – Episode: Fearsome Critters: The Gumberoo of the Pacific Northwest Deep in the fire-scarred forests of the Pacific Northwest, lumberjacks once whispered about a creature that couldn’t be killed. Bullets bounced off its skin. Blades were useless. And the only way to stop it was to set it on fire—at the risk of a violent explosion. In this episode of Show-Me Spirits, we uncover the strange and fiery legend of the Gumberoo, one of America’s most bizarre fearsome critters. Born from logging camp folklore in the late 1800s, the Gumberoo was said to roam burned-out cedar forests, waiting in the ashes for its next victim. Is it just a tall tale told to scare greenhorn loggers… or something far stranger? 🥃 Spirit of the Episode Dark Matter Logboat Brewing Co. – Columbia Missouri Dark Matter is the perfect companion for this episode — a rich, dark ale with deep roasted notes, subtle sweetness, and a smoky edge that feels pulled straight from a forest campfire. Smooth, mysterious, and a little dangerous, it mirrors the legend of the Gumberoo itself: dark, resilient, and born from fire. Pour a glass, settle in, and let the spirits speak. 👕 Grab Some Show Me Spirits Merch Looking for our official Show Me Spirits T-shirt? The Ghosts of the Bird Cage Theatre: Tombstone’s Most Haunted Showroom

🎙️ Show Me Spirits — Episode: The Bird Cage Theatre Step back into the Wild West with this chilling episode of Show-Me Spirits, as we uncover the history and hauntings of Tombstone, Arizona’s infamous Bird Cage Theatre. Built in 1881 by William “Billy” and Lottie Hutchinson, the Bird Cage quickly shed its family-friendly image to become one of the rowdiest saloons, brothels, and gambling halls of its time—open 24/7 and notorious for its violence, vice, and an eight-year-long poker game that became legend. But the spirits of the Bird Cage never left. From the ghostly Lady in White gliding along the balcony, to echoes of laughter, gunfire, and a piano that plays itself—the theatre remains one of the most haunted places in the American West. Join us as we explore the dark history, restless souls, and lingering energy of the Bird Cage Theatre, where the show never truly ended. 🔮 Spirit of the Week:  On this episode of Show-Me Spirits, we pour a glass of mystery with the 2022 Ozark Hellbender, a smooth and secretive red blend from the Ozark Mountain AVA. Just like the elusive creature it’s named for, this wine hides its blend beneath layers of intrigue—revealing notes of ripe red and black fruits with a pleasant toasty oak finish. A portion of every bottle sold supports hellbender conservation through the Saint Louis, MO. Zoo, making this the perfect pairing of good taste and a good cause. 👕 Grab Some Show Me Spirits Merch Looking for our official Show Me Spirits T-shirt?
