Edgy History #12: SOUVENIR D'EDGY WOMEN - An Audio Documentary (2016)

Created by sound artist Julia Dyck using material from The Edgy Oral History Project, SOUVENIR D'EDGY WOMEN is a 23-minute bilingual documentary consisting of a series of oral history interviews with long-time festival artistic director Miriam Ginestier, and various favourite artists such as Nathalie Claude, Lamalthide, Susana Cook, Moynan King, T.L. Morgan Sea is a transsexual artist, living and loving in Montreal. Her performance, video, and storytelling practice often blends fantasy and queer theory to create trans feminist mythologies. Here she speaks about her appreciation for the festival and about lighting her own hair on fire on the Edgy stage. Edgy History #9: Laura Beeston - Le projet d'histoire orale d'edgy women (2016)

Laura Beeston is a Winnipeg-born, Montreal-bred, Toronto-based writer who got her start at Studio 303 blogging about the arts for Edgy Women Festival. Moving through the ranks to the communications team and helping out with production management, she now writes for major Canadian newspapers, always attempting to bring a queer, feminist focus to her reporting. Interview in English. // Laura Beeston est écrivaine. Elle est née à Winnipeg, a grandi à Montréal et vit actuellement à Toronto. Beeston s'est d'abord impliquée auprès du Studio 303 en tant que blogueuse pour le Festival Edgy Women, invitée à partager ses réflexions sur les performances. Edgy History #8: Marie-Chantal Scholl alias Marie La Vierge - Le projet d'histoire orale d'edgy women (2016)

Marie-Chantal Scholl alias Marie La Vierge, est née et a grandi à Montréal de parents haïtien et allemand. Elle détient un baccalauréat en philosophie et en anthropologie, et un certificat en traduction. Marie travaille dans les milieux artistiques montréalais depuis 2003. Elle a notamment créé les Expériences contemporaines du FIMA, une série d’art performance et d’installations se déroulant dans la rue. En 2009, elle a commencé à créer ses propres performances, inspirées par la danse contemporaine, les arts visuels, l’art performance, la physique, l’astronomie et l’imaginaire sadomasochiste. L’art est pour elle un acte de guérison, de transformation et de révolution. Elle parle de son expérience comme la première blogueuse d’Edgy et la performance qui a changé sa vie. Entrevue en français. // Marie-Chantal Scholl aka Marie La Vierge, was born in Montreal to Haitian and German parents. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Anthropology, and a certificate in translation. She has been working in the arts field since 2003. She created and directed the Contemporary Experiences chapter of the Festival International Montréal en Arts (FIMA) from 2008 to 2011, a series of performances and installation destined to a wide-audience in the public space. She has been doing underground performance since 2009, supported by the Queer community, and inspired by contemporary dance, visual arts, physics, astrophysics and sadomasochist aesthetics. She sees art as an act of healing, transformation and revolution. She speaks to her experience as the first Edgy blogger and the performance that changed her life. Interview in English. Edgy History #7: Jordan Arseneault - Le projet d'histoire orale d'edgy women (2016)

Jordan Arseneault is a Montreal based social artist, performer, translator, and activist who has performed at Studio 303 events and contributed to this blog. He speaks about his experience as an embedded journalist for the 2013 Edition of the festival and the Edgy performances that pushed boundaries and transformed his view of feminist performance art. Edgy History #6: Alexis O'Hara et Dayna McLeod - Le projet d'histoire orale d'edgy women (2016)

Alexis O’Hara exploits allegories of the human voice via vocal and electronic improvisation, sound installation and performance. Her performances have been presented in diverse contexts in Europe, Latin America and across Canada and the US. Dayna McLeod is a video and performance artist whose work has shown internationally. She has won numerous awards, and often uses remix practices to mashup mainstream culture. They are both long standing Edgy muses; they speak about some of their favourite performances and feelings about the festival. Interview in english. Alexis O’Hara exploite les allégories de la voix humaine via la performance, l’improvisation vocale et électronique ainsi que l’installation sonore. Ses performances ont été présentées dans divers contextes à travers l’Europe, l’Amérique Latine ainsi qu’au Canada et États-Unis. Dayna McLeod est une artiste en performance et vidéo dont le travail a été présenté internationalement. Elle utilise souvent les pratiques de remixage pour faire du ‘mashup’ de culture populaire. Les deux sont des muses du festival Edgy Women. Elles parlent de leurs performances préférées et sentiments d’Edgy.
