    Someone asked me what people drink in my home country and I talked for twenty minutes. This week: chai and the sound of nabat against the glass, defending doogh to people who don’t want it defended, the summer sharbats with the alarming floating seeds, and the flower tea you get handed when you’re upset. Somewhere in there I figured out why I couldn’t answer the question in one sentence — none of these are drinks you make for one person.

    Somewhere along the way we decided adults aren’t allowed to be beginners — that being bad at something is a little embarrassing, something to hide or rush past. This week, over a cup of very cold tea, Darcy talks about trying something new, being genuinely terrible at it, and the surprising permission that comes from letting yourself do a thing badly, just because you like it. No pep talk, no before-and-after. Just a soft reminder that not everything has to become a skill to be worth your time.
