E158 - A Conversation With David Jennings aka Rare Bird 101
There was a rumor floating around that David Jennings aka Rare Bird 101 was going to be in town for an event at Wild Turkey. We figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if he would be willing to join us for a conversation. We knew it was a long shot, but when he said "yes," we couldn't believe it. So, this week, we present a wide ranging conversation with the unofficial mayor of Wild Turkey, Mr. David Jennings. In the episode, you will hear about his journey is whiskey, his unabashed love for Wild Turkey, and you'll get insider info on everything that went into making Raconteur Rye a reality. On top of all of that, Kenny prepares one of the most epic blinds in Mash Up history. This is the longest episode we've ever released, but it is well worth it. Sit back, grab some Turkey or Raconteur and enjoy!

E157 - Raconteur Rye (Batch #1)
Over the past couple weeks, you've heard us talking about the WoodWork Collective and David Jennings aka Rare Bird 101. What do you get when you mix the palate and bourbon prowess of David Jennings with the good folks over at the WoodWork Collective? Well...it's none other than Raconteur Rye! The recently released, limited edition, straight rye whiskey is a blend of three different/expertly finished types of 95/5 MGP rye: traditional new charred oak, cured toasted oak barrel 48 months (air dried), and finally, a mizunara barrel that once held 16 year old Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. These three liquids were expertly married to create the inaugural release of Raconteur Rye. But, what does it taste like? You'll have to listen to find out. This week, the guys enlist an AI bot to help with pronunciation of the brand name and laugh their way through another session of serious whiskey conversation.

E156 - Indigo's Hour Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Orphan Barrel whiskeys have been around since 2014. As the story goes, each bottle in this series represents stocks of whiskey that were hidden away and nearly forgotten in the back of rickhouses and distilleries. The newest release in the Orphan Barrel series is Indigo's Hour Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This is a blend of straights from Kentucky and Indiana that is 18 years old and has a mashbill of 68% corn, 28% rye, and 4% malted barley. If you've never had any Orphan Barrel offerings, you'll find this week's discussion rather intriguing. If you have had some of the previous offerings, you'll be delighted to know that we give our take on where we think this one stacks up against some of the older releases. Join us this week as we talk about the rise of nonalcoholic beverages, an overload of Jet's Pizza, and of course this new bourbon whiskey. Oh Yeah!

E155 - Old Fitzgerald Bottled-In-Bond 13 Year (VVS 2024)
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of acquiring the famed Bernheim Distillery and the Old Fitzgerald brand, Heaven Hill went deep into the "tanks" and bottled a very special bourbon. Distilled in 1999 and aged for 13 years, this VVS (very very special) Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond decanter contains the very juice that Heaven Hill deemed as exceptional all the way back in 2012. It's a modern day dusty of sorts! If you listened to episode 120 (and we highly recommend that you do), you heard us talking what we thought might become of the famed Old Fitzgerald Decanter Series, but none of us saw this release coming. Do we think it's as exceptional as the distillery employees thought more than 10 years ago? How does it compare to other favorites of ours in the series? This episode is full of surprises that you won't want to miss. As always, we give our collective honest opinions of this extremely new and rare release from Heaven Hill.

E154 - Campari's Whiskey Barons Collection
When a listener asks you to review a bottle...you don't just review that bottle...you review the entire vertical plus one more blind. Lol. This week, we dive into Campari's Whiskey Barons Collection which features, Bond & Lillard, Old Ripy, and W.B. Saffell. These 375ml bottles have been released since 2017, but can still be found in some markets. Even though these bottles are billed as coming from the American Medicinal Spirits Company, they are actually Wild Turkey distillate. They honor the traditions of the early whiskey distillers in Anderson County. But, how do they taste? We were only asked to review W.B. Saffell, but we give you perspective on each bottle. Do our thoughts on each bottle match yours? We'd love to hear what you think. Most of the conversation for this week is focused on the blinds, but we also talk about a near miss at Keeneland and something we've noticed about bourbon distribution in our old Kentucky home.

E153 - Dark Arts Whiskey House w/Macaulay Minton
The Dark Arts Whiskey House is an up and coming spot in Lexington, Kentucky which focuses on blending, rebarreling, and finishing a variety of different whiskeys. The brand promises an experience that is anything but ordinary. So what exactly does that mean? Join us this week as we welcome The Bourbon Swami/Chief Alchemist/President of Dark Arts, Mr. Macaulay Minton. This conversation is a lengthy one, but we promise it is worth it. You'll get to hear about how Macaulay got his start in the industry and his vision for the Dark Arts Whiskey House. Only in operation for a little over a year, Dark Arts is already making waves with their three core products and a variety of other delicious and unique whiskeys. We were lucky enough to taste a BUNCH of them in this episode. Warning, for the first time in the history of the podcast, this episode contains explicit/uncouth language. The conversation was just so damn fun that we felt we wanted to bring it to you in it's purest form. Y'all definitely need to check out Dark Arts!
