WHEN DATING HURTS

Evergreen Podcasts

A "must-listen-to" podcast on dating abuse and domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence. . Hosted by Bill Mitchell, author of the memoir, WHEN DATING HURTS (Amazon), this book is about the murder of his daughter by her ex-boyfriend. Bill and his wife, Michele, lost Kristin to dating violence. She was brutally murdered in June 2005, just 20 days after her college graduation. FACT: 1 in 3 WOMEN suffer serious physical violence at the hands of intimate partners during their lifetimes. Typically, it happens between the ages of 16-24. But can happen at any age. It doesn't need to happen.  Bill interviews experts with key experiences in dating and domestic violence: • Actual survivors of intimate partner violence (dating abuse and domestic violence) • "DV" agency counselors • Law enforcement professionals • Parents of children who were either lost to, or somehow survived, dating violence After listening to the WHEN DATING HURTS Podcast, be sure to share it with those who need to hear it... Remember the 1 in 3 women statistic. It is real. The WHEN DATING HURTS memoir (paperback, eBook, audiobook) is only available on Amazon. 362. Megan Margherio - Pt 2 of 2 Pts - "Everwoven": Overcoming Stepbrother Abuse & Abusive Marriage

Content Warning & Disclaimer Please proceed with caution. This episode may be highly triggering for survivors of abuse and trauma. Listener discretion is strongly advised. This is part two of two parts with Megan Margherio, author of "Everwoven." Megan's upbringing included abuse at home from her stepbrother. Her mother and stepfather were no help when she came to them while dealing with her stepbrother's physical and sexual attacks. They never believed her pleas. Her description of those years is distressing, and our hearts go out to her for suffering as she did. She later thought she had met the right guy. He tricked her into thinking he was a good person; he was anything but that. His abuse was the underlying current of their marriage. This is a survivor story. It is worth your time to follow the heroic life of Megan and see how she managed to be so positive when nothing appeared to be working in her favor. Stories like this should be considered practical exercises in what can and does happen all over the world. Abusers know how to put on the mask of nice people so they can gain control. When everything seems just about right, they become angry controllers that we hear about way too often on this podcast. Today, Megan is a much happier person, and she encourages those who are being victimized by abusers to figure out how to break free and do it. See information below and find your freedom! And read Megan's book, "Everwoven." Bill Mitchell Keywords & Themes: Trauma bonding, divorce, overcoming domestic abuse, single parent family struggles, women’s empowerment, and resilience. 360. Bill Mitchell's Appearance on "This Is Actually Happening" Podcast

Content Warning & Disclaimer Please proceed with caution. This episode may be highly triggering for survivors of abuse and trauma. Listener discretion is strongly advised. I was invited to appear on the podcast, This Is Actually Happening, about four years ago. It was a breakthrough for me because it exposed my podcast to many thousands more listeners than I had back then. The interview did well in bringing my family's tragedy out so people could hear and understand what happened. I wanted families to know what happened to us could happen to anyone's child. And I wanted them to know the kinds of warning signs we knew nothing about in 2005 when Kristin was murdered. Thanks to Whit Missildine and his staff at This Is Actually Happening for bringing me to their show. The boost I received from this appearance would have taken me years to achieve. How To Break Free. This is a blend of survivor-centered education, psychology, and clear red-flag guidance. And it's all grounded in research. We call this: Blame Shifting -- What It Is. How to Deal With It. This is not an interview with a survivor. It is not red flags wrapped into a story. This is the red flags you need to know so you will never be fooled by someone trying to use digital technology to control and stalk you in a relationship. It is a fairly short episode, so it is easily heard in one sitting. And so you can hear it again and again. You might want to take notes. This information can save someone's life. Host: Bill Mitchell If you're experiencing intimate partner abuse, coercive control, or narcissistic abuse—or if you suspect someone you care about is—Riel's story offers critical perspective on spotting red flags early, breaking free, and finding support. You're not alone, and recognizing the patterns can be the first step toward safety and recovery. Domestic violence resources are available 24/7—reach out if you need help. Info
