Dan D'Aprile on Different Writing Games, the Pain of Divorce and the Power of Voices (S3:E9)

In this episode, I talk to one of my closest comedy friends, Dan D'Aprile (Comedy Store, LA Improv).  Dan gives a master class on how he includes the right amount of risk in his joke writing and how he can get more out of laughs by adding various voices.  Dan reveals to me how he struggled navigating his parent's divorce at such a young age and how it changed him to take a more liberal stance in life which challenged his father's right wing ideology.  Dan walks me through various writing games to get material and the right punchline along with his meticulous approach to "writing on stage" and how he edits his jokes to just the right length.  I loved this interview and I know you will too!  Enjoy!  Chapters: 03:09 Dan, The Writer 16:48 Dan's Childhood of Divorce 32:38 Dan D'Aprile, Open Mic's Guardian Angel 37:23 Getting Into Comedy 45:02 Self Deprecation 54:43 Finding and Capturing Material 1:07:21 Writing Games 1:12:04 Doing Voices 1:17:43 Writing Political Jokes 1:20:53 Taking a New Joke to Stage 1:23:59 Editing a Joke 1:33:41 Wrap Up  Links From the Episode: Marc's Website: marcstaud.com Marc's Instagram: @staudcomedy Marc's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/marc.stauude...  Get to the Joke Instagram: @gettothejoke Get to the Joke Twitter: @gettothejoke Get to the Joke Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gettothejoke Email Marc at gettothejoke@gmail.com  Dan's Links: Instagram: @dannydaprile
