The Bible Doesn’t Say to Workout - So Should Christians Care About Fitness?

The Bible doesn’t tell us to work out. It doesn’t command us to lift weights, prioritize protein, avoid processed foods, or follow a fitness plan. It doesn’t directly address smartphones, social media, sedentary desk jobs, engineered convenience foods, or a culture built around comfort and overconsumption. And yet… Scripture is not silent. While the Bible may not list every modern scenario, it gives us something better — timeless wisdom. Principles that guide how we think, how we choose, how we respond, and how we live in every area of life. Colossians 3:17 tells us: “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.” What does that actually mean? What does it look like to: Work in Jesus’ name? Parent in Jesus’ name? Manage money in Jesus’ name? Speak, forgive, and respond in Jesus’ name? Scroll and consume media in Jesus’ name? And if nothing is excluded — what does it look like to care for your body in Jesus’ name? This episode explores: A biblical view of health and fitness What it means to steward your body as a temple The connection between sanctification and daily habits Why strength and consistent movement matter for long-term function and service How to apply biblical wisdom to modern health decisions In a world where movement is no longer built into daily life — and where we have more health knowledge than ever — the question isn’t whether we know what to do. The question is whether we will steward what we’ve been given. Living in Jesus’ name means representing His character in every area of life — including how we eat, how we train, how we build strength, and how we care for the body God entrusted to us. Not from obsession. Not from vanity. Not from neglect. But from wisdom. From gratitude. From stewardship. Because spiritual growth isn’t compartmentalized. It shapes how we live — in our words, our habits, and even our health. Pursuing Excellence: Your Body as a Living Sacrifice (Romans 12)

What does it really mean to pursue excellence as a Christian? In this episode of Honoring My Temple, we explore the biblical call to excellence — not perfectionism, and not mediocrity — but wholehearted faithfulness in how we live. God does not expect perfection from us in this life. But He does call us to growth. To maturity. To stewardship. Rooted in Romans 12, we unpack what it means to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice — and why caring for your health is not vanity, but obedience. The world pushes two extremes: • Obsess over the body • Or dismiss it entirely Scripture rejects both. Your body is not an idol. But it is not irrelevant either. It matters. It houses the Holy Spirit. It is entrusted to you by God. In this episode, we talk about what pursuing excellence in health actually looks like: Prioritizing God-given whole foods (plants and animals)Understanding the role of protein, strength, and nourishmentWhy strength training is wisdom — not vanityThe power of walking for long-term health and longevityStewarding your body for the tasks God has given youThis is about temple care with purpose. Eating well. Lifting weights. Walking daily. Not for image. For obedience. If you’ve ever wondered how faith and fitness connect — or how to honor God through your daily health habits — this episode will give you biblical clarity and practical wisdom. “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12 Not perfectly. Biblical Health: Start With This Verse

When it comes to honoring God with your health, this verse changes everything. In this episode of Honoring My Temple, we unpack one foundational passage that reshapes the way we think about food, fitness, and self-discipline: “I have the right to do anything—but not everything is beneficial… I will not be mastered by anything.” —1 Corinthians 6:12 What does it really mean to put God at the center of your health? It’s not about more rules. It’s not about restriction. And it’s not about perfection. It’s about understanding what true freedom actually looks like. Yes—you are free to eat what you want. You are free to care for your health—or not. But you are never free from the consequences of your choices.  In this episode, we explore: • What it means to be “mastered” by something • How food and habits can quietly control us • The difference between permission and wisdom • Why feeling unable to stop certain behaviors is not true freedom • How to grow in self-discipline through small, prayerful choices If you’ve ever thought, “I know I shouldn’t, but I can’t help it,” this conversation is for you. This week, begin practicing one simple question before each decision: “I have the right to do this—but is it beneficial?” Because biblical health isn’t about legalism. It’s about living unmastered and learning to choose what leads to life. 🎧 Listen now and join the conversation. Small, Faithful Steps Matter

Episode 2: Small, Faithful Steps Matter In this episode of Honoring My Temple, we explore why small, faithful steps matter—not because they earn God’s love, but because they reflect how we steward what He has entrusted to us. Using Jesus’ Parable of the Talents, we’re reminded that faithfulness isn’t measured by how much we’re given, but by what we do with what we have. Every servant in the parable was entrusted with something—and every one of us has been entrusted with real, tangible gifts in our daily lives. We reflect on what stewardship looks like across the many areas God has placed in our care, including: Our time and energyOur relationships and responsibilitiesOur talents, interests, and resourcesOur thought life and inner worldAnd yes—our physical bodiesThis episode gently but clearly reframes health and fitness as a stewardship issue, not a vanity issue. We address the common belief that caring for your body is about appearance or pride, and instead return to Scripture’s call to faithfulness, diligence, and excellence—with the right motive. You’ll hear why: God does not call us to mediocrity, but to faithfulnessDiscipline and effort are affirmed in Scripture when rightly orderedCaring for your body can support your ability to live out patience, clarity, gentleness, and self-disciplineFaithfulness isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing up with what you’ve been givenUltimately, this episode invites you to shift the goal: Not perfection. Not comparison. But faithful stewardship. One day at a time. Your Body Matters To God

Episode 1: Your Body Matters to God — Choosing Abundant Life Here and Now In this episode of Honoring My Temple, we pause to consider what it truly means to live the abundant life Jesus promised—not someday, but here and now (John 10:10). Abundant life isn’t limited to one area of faith, and it certainly isn’t defined by comfort, ease, or external success. It’s about fullness—a life shaped by walking with Christ and learning to live according to God’s design in every area of life. One way that abundant life is expressed is through how we steward our bodies, habits, and daily choices. In this episode, we explore why our health, energy, and well-being matter to God—not from a place of pressure or perfectionism, but as part of faithful stewardship and spiritual formation. Drawing from Scripture, including Deuteronomy 30 and Jesus’ words in John 10, we talk about how seemingly harmless comforts—food, distraction, routine habits—can quietly steal from the life Jesus desires for us when they begin to have mastery over us. You’ll hear a powerful reminder from Rick Warren that reframes how we view our bodies, along with thoughtful reflection questions to help you examine where you may be choosing comfort over life. In this episode, you’ll be invited to reflect on: What abundant life looks like for you right now, in this seasonHow food, comfort, or habits may be influencing your peace and self-disciplineHow awareness can become the first step toward freedom and changeThis episode isn’t about guilt or pressure—it’s an invitation. An invitation to choose life, one faithful decision at a time, and to learn how to walk in step with the Spirit in every area of life, including how you care for your body.
