The Lord has given me a passion for motherhood and homemaking. From that passion, a ministry has birthed- No Higher Calling. There is no higher calling on my life than to be wife to Simeon and Mama to my littles. I still have so much to learn, but as I continue to grow, it is my desire to share the truths God is teaching me.

NHC Family~ Habits of Home: Chores & Life Skills

NHC Family~ Habits of Home: Chores & Life Skills

In 2015, The Wall Street Journal did a survey recording that while 82% of people parenting today did chores growing up, only 28% of those parents were requiring their children to do chores today. Why the significant decrease? Is it important for our children to do chores? Simeon joins me as we discuss how chores help children learn life skills, how to work together as a team, and how to grow in responsibility.
Danelle Fisher, M.D., pediatrician and vice chair of pediatrics at Providence Saint John's Heath Center in Santa Monica, California, says, "When you break chores down, they are activities of daily living. You as an adult need to tend to yourself, your home, and your family. It teaches you that responsiblity as a child, that things don't just come to you, but you have to work for it."
Sometimes we think that work is a part of man's sin curse, but that is not true! God created man to work! He designed for every person, old and young, to get great satisfaction from a job well done. We can help our children understand this as we include them in the habits of home.

NHC Family~ Couples of the Bible: Isaac & Rebekah

NHC Family~ Couples of the Bible: Isaac & Rebekah

Isaac and Rebekah begin their marriage relationship with so much potential. Sadly, as we walk through their story, things fall far from God's design for marriage. God blesses their marriage with children, but instead of children stregthening their marriage, they allowed them to divide it.
Some lessons we learn from this couple:
-How a couple should handle sorrow
-The importance of being one in decision making and communication
-The legacy and impact of a godly marriage

I Always Wanted to be a Model

I Always Wanted to be a Model

Let's rewind the clock about 2 decades and get a snapshot of little girl Brettnay. I'll never forget the day I got a brochure in the mail saying that the Junior Miss American pageant wanted me. ME! I knew from that moment, I wanted to be a model.
Fast foward, God did not answer my little girl prayers. And I am so thankful! Yet in some ways, He did. I am not modeling fashion, but I am modeling Christlikeness, and often my lack thereof.
Motherhood gives us the opportunity to be models for our children. We have the privilege and responsibility to show them the patience, love, and longsuffering of the Father. Are we rising up the the task? Are we, as mothers, modeling godliness to our children? Hear the overflow of my heart as I share how God is using this thought in my life and motherhood.
