Janet Castrejon disappeared in 2015 while she was camping with her family in a remote location near the Chiricahua Mountains, when she seemingly vanished into thin air without anybody noticing. It turns out other similar disappearances occurred nearby around the same time, prompting questions as to whether there may have been a connection between them. Long after the original book went out of print, people would stumble on it in second-hand stores and get in touch with her. Interest has never really died down. The Phillip Island Murder was featured on an episode of Sensing Murder in 2005, and then became Case 80: Beth Barnard on Casefile in 2018.
