The Scriptures Are Real

Kerry Muhlestein

The Scriptures Are Real (TSAR) with Kerry Muhlestein is a podcast where we look at elements of the scriptures that have become real to us. We interview both experts (people with language, archaeological, historical backgrounds, etc.), and lay folks, and explore times when the scriptures became real to them. This is done from the viewpoint of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We believe that there is real power in the scriptures and that as they become more real we can better apply them to our lives and draw more power from them. If you listen to this podcast you will learn all kinds of interesting background information that will help you understand and learn more from the scriptures. We believe it will allow you to add real power to your life. My gratitude to my co-host Lamar Newmeyer. Also to my friend Rich Nicholls, who composed the introductory music.

In this episode Kerry mentions an episode of the Twenty Something podcast. You can find it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xAyP7_i-4M. In this episode Kerry and Lori Denning explore the story of the Book of Esther. They explore the literary elements that help us understand the book and its themes. They look at how Esther goes from being depicted as passive to active and can be our own story. They look at the role of God in the book, and also how the book shows how you can move forward given whatever your circumstance as you just take advantage of whatever is given you and trust in God. They also look at the difficulty of being religious and faithful in the midst of people who are upset with us for our views. Then Kerry and Justin Top, a military chaplain who teaches other chaplains, explore what happens when we don't see the miracles we are praying for. Or how we may feel when we see others experience miracles but they don't. They discuss how we feel when that happens and provide some ideas for how to think about it and how not to think about it. They also explore the notion that sometimes the struggle we go through when we don't see miracles is a form of grace that we need even more than the miracle. Then Kerry and Julianne explore the same topic, looking at the scriptures are lives of prophets to help us understand this difficult and painful element of all our lives. They also delve into the fact that we all sometimes see some miracles but not others in our lives. They discuss that miracles are related to faith, but when we don't see miracles it is not because we don't have faith. We are grateful for our executive producers, P. Franzen, J. Parke, D. Watson, B.
