Do You Need to Pump and Dump? Understanding Alcohol and Breastfeeding

Ciarra is joined by Jessica Semar, IBCLC, to discuss the complexities of alcohol consumption during breastfeeding. They address common myths, such as the necessity of pumping and dumping after drinking, and provide insights into how alcohol metabolizes in the body and its effects on breast milk. The discussion also touches on societal judgments surrounding breastfeeding parents who consume alcohol and the importance of evidence-based information for making informed choices. Jessica Semar is a board-certified lactation consultant and mom of three boys who has been helping families navigate their feeding journeys since 2017. She supports parents through all aspects of lactation care and has expertise in oral function and ties, breast and bottle refusal, NICU transitions, induced lactation, low milk production, extended breastfeeding, and weaning. Jessica is passionate about providing care that’s evidence-based, inclusive, neurodiversity-affirming, and tailored to each family—no matter how they choose to feed their babies. Wild Rule Breaking Season 3 Finale with Dr Billy Garvey

Behavioural Paediatrician Dr Billy Garvey returns to tell us about the science behind the stories of Season 3.  Dr Billy has picked some moments where our generous guests have touched on areas on which there is lots of evidenced based research, and then he breaks it down to some super simple stuff that we can all put into practice. In this stacked episode we look at… Improving self esteem through kids developing mastery of something (Bret McKenzie Ep), how to be an authoritative parent, not an authoritarian and how there is a big difference! (Wippa’s Ep), talk about composure and how important our own self regulation is (Nathan Fa’avae Ep), the importance of making sure we are always adapting our parenting based on the kid that is in front of us (Andy Griffiths Ep), the power of working on ourselves and the protective elements that can help kids avoid trauma or help them deal with it (Wayne Hope Ep) and why being honest with our kids and creating an a safe environment where they can always tell what they think is so important (Paddy Brammall Ep). Some really great stuff. Huge thanks to Billy.  He is so generous with his time to listen to all our episodes and apply his clinical wisdom.  You can get more of Billy and his podcast Pop Culture Parenting HERE or his great book, 10 Things I Wish You Knew About Your Child’s Mental Health.  Equally huge thanks to all our guests that came on this season and shared their stories and wisdom. We love making this show and it’s a great privilege to have you guys tune in.  Xx Hame & Tim — And lastly a tip of the cap to our fantastic sponsor HERTZ who are instrumental in making this podcast happen.  We are all about getting out there and adventuring with your kids, and HERTZ can help you make it happen. Top 16 Birth Myths from 1940's to Today

“Don’t lift your arms over your head.” “First babies always come late.” “Hospital birth is the only safe option.” If you’re pregnant, you may have already heard at least one of these — maybe from a well-meaning family member… or maybe from your doctor. In this episode, we’re having a little fun (and a lot of truth-telling) as we walk through 16 of the most common pregnancy and birth myths, from the 1940s all the way to today. Some are funny. Some are outdated. And some are still quietly shaping how women experience pregnancy and birth — without even realizing it. If you’ve ever wondered, “Is this actually true… or just something people say?"... this one's for you! Here are some highlights from the episode: • Why lifting your arms, moving your body, and even sex during pregnancy became taboo • The truth behind weight gain, cravings, and “eating for two” • The real history of being put to sleep for labor (and why informed consent matters) • How formula marketing, induction convenience, and medical authority shaped modern birth • Why questioning your provider is not only okay — it’s important • What actually happens with water breaking, due dates, and first babies • The myths surrounding epidurals, C-sections, and “forgetting the pain” • Why instant bonding doesn’t happen for everyone — and why that’s normal Some will make you laugh, others will have you shaking your head...all of them will be debunked 😉  Let's keep the conversation going...send me the craziest, funniest, or downright concerning myths you've heard!  IG @myessentialbirth  email: hello@myessentialbirth.com Don't forget to RATE & FOLLOW the Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy Podcast! From Fight Camp to Birth: How a Pro Fighter Prepared for Labor w/Madie Meacham

I never thought I would hear birth compared to fighting… but honestly, it might be one of my favorite analogies ever. In this episode, I’m joined by Madie — a professional fighter, dog trainer, and mom — who shares how she approached pregnancy and birth with the same mindset she brings to fight camp: strategy, mental strength, and trust in her mind and body. We talk about what it’s like to navigate pregnancy when you can’t workout, how she chose the right midwife, and how she learned to make intuitive decisions in labor — including whether or not to get the epidural, and how to trust her body's need for movement.  I absolutely loved this conversation and the way Madie reframes birth as something you can actually train for, mentally and emotionally, not just physically.  Here are some highlights from the episode:  • How Madie went from professional fighter to first-time (& second-time) mom...who still fights btw!  • What it was like mentally to not be able to fight or workout during pregnancy  • How she chose her midwife and what to do if you’re second-guessing your provider  • The truth about pregnancy weight gain and why it wasn’t actually a problem  • Why she calls birth a “nine-month fight camp”  • How she used visualization, meditation, movement, and My Essential Birth to prepare • Why she actually wanted cervical checks  • How intuitive position changes helped her baby move into a better position • How My Essential Birth supported her through pregnancy and labor • Her best advice for moms (and dads… especially dads 😅) If you are here and pregnant, I hope you take some of this amazing advice into your own birth prep, and that you enjoying the fun birth story as well. Breastfeeding Support That Actually Helps - Advice From a Lactation Consultant

Breastfeeding is a learned skill, and understanding what’s normal can change everything. In this episode of Pop That Mumma, I sit down with lactation consultant Lucy Weber to discuss the real challenges of breastfeeding that nobody warned us about. We unpack the emotional and hormonal rollercoaster that comes with your breastfeeding journey, why pain during breastfeeding is never normal (and what to do about it), and the importance of skin-to-skin contact in those crucial early days. Lucy shares her expert insights on common breastfeeding issues like mastitis, tongue tie, and latching difficulties, plus practical solutions that actually work. We also cover colostrum harvesting, hand expressing techniques every mum should know, and why personalised postpartum support makes all the difference. This episode is packed with evidence-based advice and honest conversation about what breastfeeding really looks like. If you've ever struggled with feeding routines, felt overwhelmed by conflicting advice, or simply want to feel more prepared for your breastfeeding experience, this episode is for you.
