Así llegó el primer Internet a República Dominicana | Mite Nishio

Por fin llegó el primer invitado del podcast, y no pudimos escoger mejor: Mite Nishio, uno de los padres del internet en República Dominicana. Estuvo en Codetel cuando el internet comercial llegó al país en 1995 y nos contó la historia completa desde adentro. 🌐 Cómo llegó el internet a RD: el enlace satelital de 128 kbps que servía al país entero, la carrera entre Codetel, Tricom y Hola América en mayo del 95, y el dato que más nos dolió: ofrecieron internet gratis a las universidades para las bibliotecas… y todas dijeron que no. Los vendedores de computadoras también rechazaron incluirlo. Nadie quería la tecnología que hoy nadie puede soltar. 🤖 Y 31 años después, la historia se repite con la IA: universidades prohibiendo ChatGPT para las tareas, dos proyectos de ley en el Congreso para regular algo que aquí todavía no se ha inventado, y la comparación con Europa — que reguló antes de innovar y hoy no lidera nada. La conversación se puso buena. 📡 Además: la nueva ley de telecomunicaciones, por qué la fibra óptica no llega a ciertas zonas (spoiler: son los ayuntamientos), la crisis de precios del hardware y cuándo se estabiliza, y los pagos instantáneos interbancarios que según Mite van a revolucionar el comercio dominicano — dinero de banco a banco en 10 segundos, solo con el número de teléfono. 💡 Y una lección que se queda: para innovar hay que mirar al pasado. El Apple Newton fracasó en el 93 y 20 años después se convirtió en el iPhone. Los mensajes de voz fracasaron en 2004 y hoy todo el mundo los usa.
