Ebrahim Adam

Moulana Ebrahim Adam was a respected South African Islamic scholar, teacher and orator based in Cape Town. He was closely associated with the Muslim community of Pelican Heights and with Masjidul Falaah, and served as the Amir of Jamiat al-Falaah Madaaris in Cape Town. His pursuit of Islamic knowledge took him to a number of prominent centres of learning. He studied at Darul Uloom Deoband in India during the 1960s, as well as at Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow and Jamia Ashrafia in Lahore. His studies also took him to Egypt, Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia, reflecting a wide exposure to different centres of Islamic scholarship. Moulana Ebrahim Adam became known for his teaching and public lectures, particularly on matters of Islamic belief, spirituality, the unseen and the Hereafter. He was regarded as an accomplished speaker and was active in Islamic education and community service in Cape Town for many years. He was also a khalifah of the renowned scholar and spiritual guide Shaykh Moulana Abdul Hafiz Makki. Within South African scholarly circles, he was connected to a number of prominent ulama and was the maternal uncle of the late Moulana Taha Karaan. Moulana Ebrahim Adam passed away in Cape Town on 27 December 2013 at the age of approximately 73. He is remembered for his contribution to Islamic scholarship, education and da’wah, particularly among the Muslim community of Cape Town.
