    Headlines: Govt announces social media algorithm opt-out

    Todays headlines include: Australian internet users will be given the choice to opt out of algorithms under reforms to social media. A Victoria police investigation into a former gynaecologist accused of performing unnecessary surgeries has been dropped.  Thousands of protesters have gathered across Germany to demonstrate against the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. A 12-year-old NSW boy is walking 540km to raise funds for better paediatric healthcare access in regional Australia.     What happens next for Lindsay Clancy?

    After many weeks, there’s finally a conclusion in the Lindsay Clancy trial. But the conclusion is that… there is no conclusion.  On Friday, local time, a mistrial was declared, after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision. And with that, the whole thing was over. At least for now.  So, what happens next for Lindsay Clancy? And will she face another trial?     Will vapes be legalised in Australia? Well, if it’s up to the Coalition, the answer is yes.     The researchers trying to end the cancer treatment guessing game

    There's a phrase that shapes cancer treatment more than most of us realise: “the average patient”. It's who a treatment plan is actually built for - not for the patient specifically, but a statistical composite drawn from clinical trials. And once a patient starts on the recommended drug, it is often eight to twelve weeks before a scan tells you whether it was ever going to work for your tumour, specifically. And the odds aren't great to begin with - roughly 19 out of 20 cancer drugs that enter human trials never make it to approval. Today we're talking to Dr Christoph Meinert, co-founder & CEO of Brisbane-based Gelomics, who’s trying to close that gap. How? He’s using AI to build a digital stand-in for an individual patient's own tumour, so doctors can test treatments on it before they ever test them on the human.     Headlines: Two more Australians found safe in Nepal

    Todays headlines include: Two more Australians have been found safe in the Nepal-Tibet flood disaster, but grave concerns remain for the 36 still missing. Bird flu has made its way to the shores of another major Australian city, with the first case of the deadly strain detected in Sydney. South Korea says it's looking at ways to help protect free movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, including possibly sending military support. And today’s good news!     Headlines: Telstra investigation into July outage

    Todays headlines include: The family of Molly Ticehurst, whose ex-partner Daniel Billings stabbed her to death in April 2024, has made victim impact statements in court. Telstra has released the results of an independent investigation into its outage in early July, which left thousands of Australians unable to make calls or access data. A Queensland coroner has identified scurvy as a factor in the death of six-year-old boy in the state two years ago. And today’s good news! Shark attack survivor Leah Stewart has reunited with the life guards who helped pull her from the water and gave her CPR.
