On August 1st, for the first time in the history of college football, schools were allowed to sell advertising space on the front of the jersey. A square four inches in size. Two inches by two. Ohio State sold theirs to JPMorgan Chase for about $17 million a year. Notre Dame sold theirs to SoFi for $18–20 million a year on a six-year deal. Illinois got $6 million from a regional bank. Air Force got $2 million. Wyoming got $4.5 million over five years from a natural gas pipeline company. Miami — the 12th-highest-revenue athletic department in America, the 3rd richest private athletic department in the country behind only Notre Dame and USC, eight months removed from playing for a national championship — has sold nothing. The entire ACC has exactly one jersey patch deal. It belongs to Cal. In this video I break down what the rule actually allows, every dollar the market has already paid, what Miami's square is genuinely worth (and why the lazy version of that math lands way too low), the reason Notre Dame gets paid more than Ohio State despite drawing 26% fewer fans, what Miami actually delivered on television last season — including the one number that argues against everything else in this video — and why the jersey is the only piece of premium inventory this university fully controls. The numbers in this video: ▪ The rule: 4 square inches, 2 patches per uniform, live since August 1, 2026 ▪ Banned in the NCAA Tournament — but the patch stays on through the entire College Football Playoff ▪ Notre Dame $18–20M/yr · Ohio State ~$17M/yr · Illinois $6M · Michigan State $4M · Wyoming $900K/yr ▪ Miami athletics revenue: $230,484,608 — 12th nationally, 1st in the ACC, 3rd among private schools ▪ 2025 home attendance: Miami 64,502 (25th). Illinois 59,744 (29th). Miami outdrew the school that got $6 million. ▪ Notre Dame draws 26% fewer fans than Ohio State — and gets paid more ▪ Miami played five of the 17 most-watched games in America last season, including #1 (30.1M) and #3 (19.0M) ▪ ~95% of college jersey patch inventory is still unsold league-wide ▪ ACC schools take home $47.1M a year. Big Ten schools take home $79.9M. ▪ My estimate on Miami's patch: $12–15 million a year — and where every dollar of that comes from. The Echevarria Law Firm — proud title sponsor of Canes Pulse.
