A comment on maiden names
I love crooked media, hands down, end of story. But you’re my faves, with your funny mix of humor and serious information. Anyway, apart from praising you, I want to point out an ironic fact about maiden names. In Spain - where I’m currently living - women always keep their maiden names and this is despite a long, dark patriarchal history. They’re also very proud of this and my students always remind me that this doesn’t happen anywhere else. They like to say they don’t belong to anyone. Sadly, this custom did not hold in the Americas where wives are “de ‘somebody or the other’.”
