Having grown up dancing socially at her dad’s rock band’s gigs in the Midwestern region of the United States, she discovered young the exhilaration of playfully experiencing groove alongside others. Guided by this inspiration and a fondness for jazz and American social dance ideas, she's worked with creatives as varied as hip-hop dance theater artists Rennie Harris and the Wild Goose Chase Cloggers Appalachian clogging company. In performance, she makes and performs new staged works and presents those of others through her company Rhythmically Speaking, is a member of Afro-Brazilian contemporary company Contempo Physical Dance, and performs as self-created character “Nerdette” for St. Paul Saints Baseball’s Entertainment Team. Shake a Leg - The Future is Dance: E00 Introduction

Today on Shake a Leg: who we are, IDC bare bones, why you care, and if you dare - pandemic dancing fare. Welcome to Shake A Leg, where we connect dance artists with dance lovers in a fun, enlightening, and lively conversation. Shake a Leg is all about having a conversation about dance. It’s basically our audio version of a bulletin board about dance. We’ll talk about movement, current events, dance history, choreography, and we’ll speak to experts about dance. Shake a Leg is sponsored by the Isthmus Dance Collective, a democratic co-operative dance organization actively working to make dance more accessible and approachable for the greater Madison community and beyond. This podcast is an opportunity for our community to have deeper and richer conversations about dance. Whether you’re a professional dancer, someone who loves taking dance classes and seeing performances, or you’re just curious about dance, we hope you’ll join us and add your voice to the discussion. Many of our discussions will be grounded in dance that can be seen and experienced in our area, but we’ll also have more global conversations about dance. Every week we’ll have a weekly conversation topic that the two of us will chat about. Sometimes we’ll have guests in to have those conversations with us - sometimes experts, sometimes listener enthusiasts. When we bring guests on, we won’t simply be interviewing them for a behind the scenes look at how they create their work, we’ll be getting their expert perspective on our weekly conversation topic. We’ll try as much as possible to talk about work that you’ll be able to watch online or in person so you can experience the work for yourself and form your own opinions. So that weekly conversation topic will be the title and biggest portion of each episode, but we’ll also include several recurring segments. In every episode will be a short Dance in the News segment to keep us all up to date with current events that affect both dance artists and enthusiasts. We’ll have a dance vocabulary/movement of the day segment that will get you thinking more physically and enhance your ability to talk about dance. And then you can interact directly with our 2 Dance Truths and a Lie Segment as well as through listener emails.
