Dr. Natasha Mesinkovska on Alopecia Areata: Luck Favors the Prepared Mind

What happens when two dermatologists who have spent years treating alopecia areata sit down and compare notes? In this special episode of the Skincredible Podcast, Dr. Lisa Swanson welcomes her friend and colleague Dr. Natasha A. Mesinkovska, MD, PhD, an Associate Professor of Dermatology and Vice Chair for Clinical Research at UC Irvine and a nationally recognized expert in hair loss and alopecia areata. Together, they take a candid look at how the treatment landscape for alopecia areata has transformed—from a time when some patients were told there was little that could be done, to an era of targeted therapies and rapidly expanding options. They talk about what clinicians have learned from years of clinical trials and treating real patients, why earlier intervention may matter, how to think about treatment when the first approach doesn't work, and some of the questions that still don't have easy answers. And, of course, they bring plenty of personality to the conversation. If you treat patients with alopecia areata or if you're a patient who is curious about what's out there and some of the science of how it came to be, stay tuned.
