I Thought AI Was Going to Replace Me but Now I'm Worried It Might Steal My Soul

You know what’s annoying? The AI conversation is everywhere. And creatives are stuck in the middle - scared AI will replace them, guilty for using it, and exhausted from the burnout. In this episode, I’m talking about where I fit in this whole AI boom as a burnt-out creative. The fear that AI was going to make me obsolete. The curiosity that made me try it anyway. And the messy truth about using AI as a tool without losing your voice. This isn’t about whether AI is good or bad. It’s about the creatives in the messy middle - the ones who can create with or without AI but are just tired. The ones wondering: Am I cheating? Is this still my work? Where do I draw the line? If you’ve ever felt guilty for using AI, or scared of being replaced by it, or just confused about where you fit in all this, this conversation is for you. If you're subscribed to my newsletter, ASKindreds, you would have received an email from me earlier today where I mentioned that one of the things to look forward to from me in 2026 is revamping my podcast, formerly called Itan Ife. Yeah, it's been a whole lot of work. When I started Itan Ife in 2024, it was something I basically started on a whim because I wanted to be connected to my creativity. At that point, I thought I was giving up on writing completely. So it was all over the place— completely unplanned, you know? I still have the episodes. I think I published about 9 of them, and they're in my archives. As time goes on, I'll be bringing out some of the really interesting episodes and resharing them on this podcast. So now, I'm introducing my new and revamped podcast: Between Us Creatives. Between Us Creatives is for people like me—creatives who are struggling, who have mental health battles on top of creative battles, who are trying to build something that matters while also just trying to survive. This isn't motivational content. It's honest conversations about what it actually takes to keep going when being a creative is breaking you. Some episodes are me processing this out loud; other times I'm talking to other creatives who get it. New episodes weekly. We're launching officially on January 6th, 2026. This is a public episode.
