Listen & review on Apple Podcasts.

Welcome to a edition of Film Studies. Today we're looking at the 1982 Classic John Carpenter's The Thing.

Released in 1982, The Thing is a remake of 1951’s The Thing from Another World, both of which are based on a short story called Who Goes There written by John W. Campbell published 1938. The script was written by Bill Lancaster and directed by John Carpenter.  The movie’s most notable stars are Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley and Jed, the dog!

As usual, we review this film and discuss ways it could inspire tabletop RPG adventures, characters or practices.

Our academic team is completed by Lloyd Gyan (@druggeddwarf) of Modiphius Games. Tom Cantwell (@BeskarTom) of The RPG Academy and Al Nicholas (@BigAlTheLawyer)

Tabletop RPG settings systems, setting and luminaries mentioned included:

We hope you enjoy the Southlands realm of Midgard as much as we do. We chose this setting because of its diversity and representation of cultures we weren't used to seeing in the fantasy genre and that is something we want to celebrate. We acknowledge, however, that we as white content creators might misstep when representing people of color and cultures outside of our own background. Our aim is to recognize and elevate diverse experiences, not perpetuate stereotypes or normalized racism. Reach out to us via our email FateofMidgard@gmail.com or on Twitter @FateofMidgard.
