Mindblowing podcast
14/12/2018
Mindblown. Thanks to Hedley and his podcast, going through this “journey” you can’t not feel like you’re part of Lyn’s family. The family that’s getting bigger and bigger by more people joining by listening to this podcast or following the news. I check the news everyday to see if the case is going further... I just hope that there will be justice for Lyn sooner than later. Wishing her lovely family all the best and sending lots of love. You’re all on my mind every single day.
Victim blaming
09/09/2020
In many ways this is a good podcast and if justice is finally achieved then it will have resulted in positive change. But the repeated blaming of the first (chronologically) victim is inexcusable and smacks of misogyny. She was a minor and he was her teacher. She was a victim of grooming, coercion and sexual assault. Had the perpetrator been called to account for these crimes then perhaps he would not have been at liberty to murder his wife. The school authorities and police are culpable, not the child victim of a predator. End of. To show it any other light is irresponsible and a disservice to all victims of such abuse.
Interesting, but..

... I must say, as someone who works with sexually exploited girls and women, I'm deeply troubled by the fact that Joanna is called "The girlfriend" and she is discribed as someone "culpable" for any of the the things happened. No matter the "age of consent" - he was her teacher, due to this already he had power over her, she was in a vulnerable situation because of her family and needed an adult to show attention to her: and he tood advantage of that. This is not a "relationship", this is clear exploitation no matter if the young person "consented". For a young person to say no to an adult that shows them attention and has power over them, requieres that the young person has a strong support system and knowledge of healthy relationships - and someone to turn to. It's common for youth to have feelings for their exploiters and think they were the active part in "the relationship". This is also a mean of survival. It's also common for other adults to blame the young persons in these situations and even punish them for the actions of the perpetrators.
