    I Was No Longer Running — Casey Clark

    Episode 9 is unique. It combines my work here in Pennsylvania and my old life in motocross. I never rode or competed on a dirt bike, but I relate highly to that world, and this episode kind of connects the dots. Casey is an awesome story. A really fast local pro racer who was under a tent at the racetrack for a while. But racing was never the whole story — behind it he was struggling the same way that I do, the same way many others do. That led to five cop cars picking him up from his parents' garage, a moment that he calls the biggest relief of his life. But it's an inspiring story because he never gave up, and that continues to this day. He's taking steps. Three years sober, buying a house, a professional who still allows himself time to do what he loves. That's the part I want people to see. I also relate to the family aspect of it. My family is my greatest asset, and I would not be here without my parents. I'm excited to share Episode 9 with Casey Clark with you guys!     Bo Kyle is our commercial construction HVAC foreman. I've known him for a while now but this was the first time I really got to sit down and hear his story. We have a lot in common, to say the least. I appreciate how honest he is and admire the life he is building. That's what the show is all about, right? Bo did it the way you're supposed to. Vo-tech, a welding trade, his own house at twenty-four. Then the drinking got heavier, and it became more than just drinking. He wound up losing everything and he found himself at his bottom. For Bo that bottom was fourteen days in an ICU in Montana, and a car he sold for two hundred bucks to get on a plane home. One thing I've learned about being at the bottom is that you can either work on digging yourself out or work on digging the floor a little deeper. That moment is so pivotal. It's the one I look for in all stories. I love redemption. I love the grind. Bo's story has it all, and something everyone can relate to. Bo told me all of this from his truck at work and then, after we lost connection, from his hotel room. That to me says a lot about who he is.     From $1 Photos to the State Senate — Sen. Ben Queen

    Ben Queen and I grew up in the same corner of West Virginia. He started charging a dollar a photo when he was twelve. At fourteen he was on the sideline shooting the Super Bowl. At twenty-one he got elected while he was still a student at WVU, and he never put the camera down. Ben's story and his life work are very admirable to me. He has used the tools around him, his talents, interests and network to build a life he loves and is proud of. Who doesn't want that? I know I do. It's not always easy, but nothing ever is. I can't imagine walking into the state capitol as a senator. His challenges are some of the most unique yet they still resound universally somehow. Because they're human. One of the biggest things I look for in people is their heart. It takes courage and vulnerability to share it. I think Ben leads with it. He cares deeply and his family does too.     I've carried Lucas's story with me for a few years now. At fifteen he was one of the best young off-road racers in the country — a seven-time national champion with the pro ranks in front of him. Then a slow crash on a covered bridge, on a night he'd talked his buddy into one more ride, took the use of his legs. Most people would've let that be the end of the story. Lucas made it the start of a different one. What gets me about Lucas isn't that he came back — it's how he thinks. He never once asked "why me." From the second he was sitting on that bridge, the only question in his head was "how can I do this." He's been answering it ever since. Today he's back at the races every single weekend — not on a bike, but building the next generation of kids who are. And when you ask him what success looks like now, he doesn't talk about himself at all. This might be the most powerful conversation I've had on this show.
