    3 - "What is an Interval?"

    French composer Claude Debussy said "Music is the space between the notes." Mr. Debussy might have meant the silence between the notes, or he might have meant the difference in frequency between the two pitches. Musician, Peter Kagstrom, and Singer, Kristi Deprin, talk about intervals, or the relationship of two different notes in this episode. Learning the relationship between two notes can help in ear training and grow relative pitch. Some notes in sequence sound good, or harmonious, and some sound not as pleasing, or dissonant. Thinking about harmony and dissonance, Peter and Kristi explore songs in the key of D, the happiest of keys, and conclude the episode with the children's classic, "Itsy Bitsy Spider."

    2 - "What is a Musical Key?"

    What happens when the senses blur and we can see and hear simultaneously? This phenomenon is called synesthesia. Life-long musicians, Kristi Deprin, talk about synesthesia while exploring the key of G. They also play "Guess the Pitch" and explain why some pitches, or notes, sound higher and why some sound lower and how we can group those pitches together to form a family or key. Then, episode ties all the concepts together by paying tribute to singer/song writer Billy Joel with a cover of "Goodnight, My Angel." As the song states, "Someday we'll all be gone, but lullabies live on an on."

Life-long musicians, Peter Kagstrom and Kristi Deprin, explore the key of C and talk about what makes a musical note, offering ways a person can develop perfect or relative pitch by practicing the tool of association. Peter and Kristi pair the lullaby "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" with the key of C, performing it for all who want a peaceful slumber and a little music appreciation on their way to dreamland.
