    EP 33 - Brewing Beer to Kill for with Huston from Bastet Brewing

    As we savor the last few days left of summer, we have for you one final entry from Jeff’s Florida Adventure! This episode, Jeff grabbed a spot at the bar with Huston Lett, co-founder and head brewer at Bastet Brewing, a Tampa beer scene staple for connoisseurs of the unique and non-traditional (although if you like to keep it classic, they’ve got you covered there too with 24 taps!). Huston and Tom had known each other for years before they discovered their shared passion for craft brewing. It didn’t take long for them to share their home brewing and eventually start a home brew club, the Water to Fire Brewers Collective. A lay-off at the law firm where they both worked would ultimately push them to finally pursue their craft beer dreams, and after a few years of working for the beer scene talent incubator Cigar City, Bastet Brewing became a reality. If you’re a history and folklore fan, good news! Huston gives Jeff the lowdown on the story behind Bastet, and shares the lasting influence Egyptian brewing has had on modern brewing practices and culture.     EP 32 - The Quest for the Elusive Coppertail with Gary, Derrick, and Ken from Coppertail Brewing Co.

    Join us for week two of Jeff’s Summer Adventure! This week, we’re taking you to lovely Ybor, Florida to hang out over a few beers with Gary Kost, Ken Foutch, and Derrick Gough from Coppertail Brewing Co.  What started as a childhood cryptid created by owner Kent Bailey’s daughter evolved through the years into the award winning and forever mystical brewery (complete with a functioning confessional) here today.  We talk about distribution and a “local first” mentality, zesting limes with a power drill, and Pink Boots collabs… but we can’t talk about Wyoming 👀  Derrick, Gary, and Ken leave us with great advice about the importance of building a brand, how to find your place on the production floor, and always being a team player.     This week we’ve got the first of three interviews from Jeff’s summer adventure to Tampa, Florida!     EP 30 - Talkin’ Bottle Shop with Israel from Gate City Growlers

    Join us this week on Brews Rock as we sit down with Israel Allen, co-owner and operator of Gate City Growlers, a Greensboro bottle shop in the heart of Midtown with a focus on craft beer and cultivating community.  Israel and his brother Durham Knight bought the 8-year-old bottle shop from its previous owners in February of this year. They knew they wanted to keep the concept the same, but hoped to draw in a new crowd the previous owners hadn’t tapped into. In less than a year, Israel has already seen success in that goal through various community events, including the popular “Battle of the Brews,” which pits two Greensboro breweries against each other in the ultimate tap takeover with a wrestling belt (and bragging rights) as the prize. Though Israel may not have come into this venture with a ton of business expertise, his ability to ask for help combined with his willingness to learn has served him well. That same philosophy is carried over to his efforts in educating his guests at that bar with empathy and kindness.
