    Lost Stories - Nasruddin feeds his Coat

    Hey story lovers! While you’re waiting for the next new story, we’ve decided to look back into the archives at some stories that got a bit lost for a while. Every other week, we will be giving these episodes a spot light and calling them 'the lost stories'. Our story is all about the wise fool Nasruddin. He’s a wonderful character whose tales are told all across the Islamic world – India, Pakistan, the middle east, turkey, Afghanistan, even parts of Greece, Albania, Macedonia, Russia, even China. Mullah Nasruddin is sometimes called 'Hodja' – which means master, and his lessons are very interesting. He gets up to all sorts of funny antics, but we also learn that he can be unusually wise.     Episode 19 - Ali Baba & The Forty Thieves Part 1

    Hello Story lovers! We are so excited to bring you a two parter from the famous collection: Arabian Nights, also known as ‘The Thousand and One Nights!’ Do you remember the Fisherman and the Genie back in Season one? That’s from the Arabian nights. All the tales are told by the beautiful Sheherazade who tells a story every night for 1001 nights so that her husband, the King, will keep her alive - yikes! Her stories are so entertaining, and she’s so very clever, she leaves them on a bit of a cliff hanger so the King just has to hear how the story ends the next night! And it saves her life. Our story comes from a collection of stories from the Southern states of America.  And features a very tricky character who loves getting up to mischief. Brer Rabbit. These stories were carried over the ocean by African slaves, and although we might now feel a bit uncomfortable with the voice of Uncle Remus (stories told through a white man's lens) these animal stories are fantastic and need to be celebrated in their own right! Our story is a very very old tale from the Australian Aboriginal people. They do not have a written down language, so their wisdom is passed down through word of mouth, symbols and beautiful art work. Aboriginal people of Australia believe that the Dreamtime was way back, in the very beginning of time. Everything was created by ancestor spirits. They made the rivers, streams, water holes hills, rocks, plants and animals.
